Papers
Self-awareness in autonomous automotive systems
Johannes Schlatow,Mischa Moostl,Rolf Ernst,Marcus Nolte,Inga Jatzkowski,Markus Maurer,Christian Herber,Andreas Herkersdorf +7 more
- 27 Mar 2017
TL;DR: This paper summarizes current approaches for establishing self-awareness on those layers and elaborate why self- awareness needs to be addressed as a cross-layer problem, which is illustrated by practical examples.
Performance Isolation Exposure in Virtualized Platforms with PCI Passthrough I/O Sharing
Andre Richter,Christian Herber,Holm Rauchfuss,Thomas Wild,Andreas Herkersdorf +4 more
- 25 Feb 2014
TL;DR: This paper shows that current implementations of x86 PCI Passthrough are prone to Denial-of-Service attacks, and investigates which hardware parameters influence the impact of such attacks and introduces three protection approaches.

Real-time capable CAN to AVB ethernet gateway using frame aggregation and scheduling
Christian Herber,Andre Richter,Thomas Wild,Andreas Herkersdorf +3 more
- 09 Mar 2015
TL;DR: This paper aggregate and schedule multiple CAN frames into a single AVB Ethernet frame to minimize bandwidth requirements and evaluates static and dynamic scheduling approaches and determines optimal gateway configurations, showing that the necessary bandwidth reservation is reduced by 72% compared to similar approaches.

Hardware virtualization support for shared resources in mixed-criticality multicore systems
Oliver Sander,Timo Sandmann,Viet Vu Duy,Steffen Bähr,Falco K. Bapp,Jürgen Becker,Hans Ulrich Michel,Dirk Kaule,Daniel Adam,Enno Lübbers,Jurgen Hairbucher,Andre Richter,Christian Herber,Andreas Herkersdorf +13 more
- 24 Mar 2014
TL;DR: Based on examples taken from the automotive domain several concepts for efficient hardware extensions of coprocessors and I/O devices are shown that provide mechanisms to ensure quality of service (QoS) levels in terms of execution time, throughput and latency.

Spatial and Temporal Isolation of Virtual CAN Controllers
Christian Herber,Andre Richter,Holm Rauchfuss,Andreas Herkersdorf +3 more
- 01 Jan 2013
TL;DR: It is shown, that even a denial-of-service attack towards one virtual controller does not influence the behavior of other virtual controllers, and the scheduling mechanism implemented to guarantee temporal isolation can be configured to provide differentiated service levels for real-time and best effort application domains.
