A generator for unique quantum random numbers based on vacuum states
Christian Gabriel,Christoffer Wittmann,Denis Sych,Ruifang Dong,Ruifang Dong,Ruifang Dong,Wolfgang Mauerer,Ulrik L. Andersen,Christoph Marquardt,Gerd Leuchs +9 more
TL;DR: Researchers demonstrate random-number generation by exploiting the intrinsic randomness of vacuum states, which may lead to reliable and high-speed quantum random- number generators for applications ranging from gambling to cryptography.

Classical and quantum properties of cylindrically polarized states of light
TL;DR: All possible configurations of cylindrically polarized modes of the electromagnetic field are determined, their total angular momentum is calculated, and a hybrid spatio-polarization description for such modes is introduced and developed.

Classical and quantum properties of cylindrically polarized states of light
TL;DR: In this paper, a hybrid spatio-polarization description for cylindrically polarized modes (CPMs) of the electro-magnetic field was introduced and a Poincar\'e sphere was introduced to represent simultaneously the polarization and spatial degree of freedom of CPMs.

Entangling Different Degrees of Freedom by Quadrature Squeezing Cylindrically Polarized Modes
Christian Gabriel,Christian Gabriel,Andrea Aiello,Andrea Aiello,Wenjia Elser née Zhong,Wenjia Elser née Zhong,Tijmen G. Euser,Nicolas Joly,Nicolas Joly,Peter Banzer,Peter Banzer,Michael Förtsch,Michael Förtsch,Dominique Elser,Dominique Elser,Ulrik L. Andersen,Ulrik L. Andersen,Ulrik L. Andersen,Ch. Marquardt,Ch. Marquardt,P. St. J. Russell,P. St. J. Russell,Gerd Leuchs,Gerd Leuchs +23 more
TL;DR: Theoretically it is proven that by quadrature squeezing cylindrically polarized modes one generates entanglement between these two different degrees of freedom and results display that such novel continuous-variable entangled systems can, in principle, be realized.
Birefringence and dispersion of cylindrically polarized modes in nanobore photonic crystal fiber
Tijmen G. Euser,Markus A. Schmidt,Nicolas Joly,Christian Gabriel,Ch. Marquardt,Leyun Zang,Michael Förtsch,Peter Banzer,A. Brenn,Dominique Elser,Michael Scharrer,Gerd Leuchs,P. St. J. Russell +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate experimentally and theoretically that a hollow channel placed centrally in the solid-glass core of a photonic crystal fiber strongly enhances the cylindrical birefringence (the modal index difference between radially and azimuthally polarized modes).
