We propose a method to generate a Bessel beam using cross-phase modulation based on the thermal nonlinear optical effect. The thermal nonlinear medium is shown to have the ability to vary a Gaussian beam (probe beam) into a hollow beam when the medium is illuminated with a counter-propagating Gaussian beam (pump beam). It is demonstrated that this method has no restriction to the probe beam wavelength. Moreover, the generated Bessel beam exhibits superior non-diffraction properties during propagation and self-healing after encountering an obstruction on the beam path. The parameters of the beam can be easily adjusted by both the pump beam power and the sample concentration. The merits of variable parameters, no requirement for input beam wavelengths, simple setup, and low-cost would make this method significant in a variety of applications, especially in those areas where the parameters of the Bessel beam need to be easily adjusted without changing the setup.

Diffraction-free, self-reconstructing Bessel beam generation using thermal nonlinear optical effect

In this paper, Zn/ZnSe thin films were deposited on glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering system. XRD analyses were done. Zn and ZnSe phases were obtained. Miller indices of obtained Zn phases were detected in (320), (620) and (112) crystal formation. For the ZnSe phases, only one peak of (110)/(220) was observed. The surface morphology of the samples was investigated by an atomic force microscopy tools. It found that average roughness of the films was increased by raised RF power. The thin films around 80 % of high transmittance were measured. The band gap values were calculated as to be ~2.80 eV by the Cauchy model. The calculated refractive indices values were approximately 2.25 by a relation between the refractive index and the band gap.

Zn/ZnSe thin films deposition by RF magnetron sputtering

Spark plasma sintering (SPS) was utilized to achieve the densification of ZnSe ceramics with a simple 3D ball-milling powder processing. The morphology evolution of powders during the ball milling process and the densification and microstructure of fabricated ceramics were investigated. The effective ball-milling of 8h obviously reduced the particle size and the full densification of ZnSe ceramics was achieved at the sintering temperature of 900 °C. The lower heating rate could obtain the denser ceramics with fewer pores and fine microstructure but serious carburization, and higher heating rate accelerated the grain growth. The optimized heating rate of 5 °C/min obtained the fine grain size of ~5.0 μm. Some challenging issues of fundamentals and technologies were proposed to improve the optical quality of ZnSe ceramics by SPS.

Generation of a localized hollow laser beam using crossed nonlinear optical crystals

In this paper, by using the Collins formula and the Rytov method, the model used to descript the propagation properties of the conical hollow beams(CHBs) in the turbulent atmosphere is firstly constructed and the simulation is made by the numerical method. The results show that the initial transmission angle has important influence on the propagation properties. Beside these, the index structure constant and the order number also can influence the transverse intensity distribution. So according to the model, the intensity distribution of the conical hollow beams in the turbulent atmosphere can be controlled by adjusting these parameters.

The invention discloses arbitrary wavelength semi-Gaussian laser beam generator, belonging to the laser beam shaping technology field. The arbitrary wavelength semi-Gaussian laser beam generator consists of an incident laser light source, a collimator system, a coherence degree attenuator, and a non-transparent sheet (blade). The laser beam shaping method comprises steps of transmitting parallel light which is converted by an incident laser light source through the collimator system to the coherence degree attenuator, and using the non-transparent sheet (blade ) to cut half of the light outputted from the coherence degree attenuator, wherein the outputted light beam is the semi-Gaussian laser beam which is transmitted stably in the space. The advantages of the invention are that only one coherence degree attenuator and the non-transparent sheet (blade) can realize the generation of the semi-Gaussian which can be stably transmitted in the free space, that the generator has no preference for the wavelength of the incident laser source, the light beam transmission is stable, the application range is wide and the laser beam generator is solid and the operation is easy.
