Exerkines in health, resilience and disease
Lisa S. Chow,Robert E. Gerszten,Joan M. Taylor,Bente Klarlund Pedersen,Henriette van Praag,Scott Trappe,Mark A. Febbraio,Zorina S. Galis,Yunling Gao,Jacob M. Haus,Ian R. Lanza,Carl J. Lavie,Chih Hao Lee,Alejandro Lucia,Cedric Moro,Ambarish Pandey,Jeremy M. Robbins,Kristin I. Stanford,Alice E. Thackray,Saul A. Villeda,Matthew J. Watt,Ashley Y. Xia,Juleen R. Zierath,Bret H. Goodpaster,Michael P. Snyder +24 more
TL;DR: Exerkines are signalling moieties released in response to acute and/or chronic exercise, which exert their effects through endocrine, paracrine and or autocrine pathways as discussed by the authors .
Metabolic flexibility and insulin resistance
TL;DR: The role of glucose disposal rate, adipose tissue lipid storage, and mitochondrial function on metabolic flexibility is discussed and the bias of using the change in respiratory quotient to calculate metabolic flexibilityis emphasized and novel approaches to assess metabolic flexibility are proposed.

Adipocyte Exosomes Promote Melanoma Aggressiveness through Fatty Acid Oxidation: A Novel Mechanism Linking Obesity and Cancer.
Ikrame Lazar,Emily Clement,Stéphanie Dauvillier,Delphine Milhas,Manuelle Ducoux-Petit,Sophie Le-Gonidec,Cedric Moro,Vanessa Soldan,Stéphane Dalle,Stéphanie Balor,Muriel Golzio,Odile Burlet-Schiltz,Philippe Valet,Catherine Muller,Laurence Nieto +14 more
TL;DR: It is shown that adipocytes secrete exosomes in abundance, which are then taken up by tumor cells, leading to increased migration and invasion, and inhibition of this metabolic pathway completely abrogates the exosome-mediated increase in migration.

Effect of endurance training on skeletal muscle myokine expression in obese men: identification of apelin as a novel myokine.
Besse-Patin A,Montastier E,Claire Vinel,Isabelle Castan-Laurell,Katie Louche,Cédric Dray,Danièle Daviaud,Lucile Mir,Marie Adeline Marques,Claire Thalamas,Philippe Valet,Dominique Langin,Cedric Moro,Nathalie Viguerie +13 more
TL;DR: It is shown that exercise training upregulates muscle apelin expression in obese subjects and may behave as a novel exercise-regulated myokine with autocrine/paracrine action.

Natriuretic peptides enhance the oxidative capacity of human skeletal muscle.
Stefan Engeli,Andreas L. Birkenfeld,Pierre-Marie Badin,Virginie Bourlier,Katie Louche,Nathalie Viguerie,Claire Thalamas,Emilie Montastier,Dominique Larrouy,I. Harant,Isabelle de Glisezinski,Stefanie Lieske,Julia Reinke,Bibiana Beckmann,Dominique Langin,Jens Jordan,Cedric Moro +16 more
TL;DR: Activation of NP signaling in human skeletal muscle enhances mitochondrial oxidative metabolism and fat oxidation and it is proposed that NP could contribute to exercise training-induced improvement in skeletal muscle fat oxidative capacity in humans.
