Induction of dermal-epidermal separation in mice by passive transfer of antibodies specific to type VII collagen
Cassian Sitaru,Sidonia Mihai,Christoph Otto,Mircea T. Chiriac,Ingrid Hausser,Barbara Dotterweich,Hitoshi Saito,Christian Rose,Akira Ishiko,Detlef Zillikens +9 more
TL;DR: Rabbit antibodies specific to a murine form of this antigen are generated and characterized and passively transferred into adult nude, BALB/c, and C57BL/6 mice to facilitate further dissection of the pathogenesis of this disease and development of new therapeutic strategies.
Granulocyte-derived elastase and gelatinase B are required for dermal-epidermal separation induced by autoantibodies from patients with epidermolysis bullosa acquisita and bullous pemphigoid.
Iakov Shimanovich,Sidonia Mihai,Gertie J. Oostingh,T. Toney Ilenchuk,Eva-B. Bröcker,Ghislain Opdenakker,Detlef Zillikens,Cassian Sitaru +7 more
TL;DR: It is strongly suggested that elastase and gelatinase B are essential for granulocyte‐mediated proteolysis resulting in dermal–epidermal separation in EBA and BP patients' skin.
Mechanisms of blister induction by autoantibodies.
Cassian Sitaru,Detlef Zillikens +1 more
TL;DR: Generally, decisive progress has been made in the characterization of the mechanisms of blister formation in autoimmune skin diseases, however, various aspects, including the exact contribution of steric hindrance and signal transduction for pemphigus IgG‐induced acantholysis or the fine tuning of the inflammatory cascade triggered by autoantibodies in some subepidermal blistering diseases still need to be addressed.

Induction of Complement-Fixing Autoantibodies against Type VII Collagen Results in Subepidermal Blistering in Mice
Cassian Sitaru,Mircea T. Chiriac,Sidonia Mihai,Jürgen Büning,Andreas Gebert,Akira Ishiko,Detlef Zillikens +6 more
TL;DR: A robust experimental system that reproduces in mice the clinical, histopathological, and immunopathological findings in EBA patients should greatly facilitate further studies on the pathogenesis of EBA and the development of novel immunomodulatory therapies for this and other autoimmune diseases.
