This systematic review aimed to provide a comprehensive view of (1) the purposes of research studies using smart city infrastructures to promote citizen participation in the cities’ management and governance, (2) the characteristics of the proposed solutions in terms of data sources, data quality, and data security and privacy mechanisms, as well, as strategies to incentivize citizen participation, and (3) the development stages of the applications being reported. An electronic search was conducted combining relevant databases and keywords, and 76 studies were included after a selection process. The results show a current interest in developing applications to promote citizen participation to identify urban problems and contribute to decision-making processes. Most of the included studies considered citizens as agents able to report issues (e.g., issues related to the maintenance of urban infrastructures or the mobility in urban spaces), monitor certain environmental parameters (e.g., air or acoustic pollution), and share opinions (e.g., opinions about the performance of local authorities) to support city management. Moreover, a minority of the included studies developed collaborative applications to involve citizens in decision-making processes in urban planning, the selection of development projects, and deepening democratic values. It is possible to conclude about the existence of significant research related to the topic of this systematic review, but also about the need to deepen mechanisms to guarantee data quality and data security and privacy, to develop strategies to incentivize citizen participation, and to implement robust experimental set-ups to evaluate the impact of the developed applications in daily contexts.

Anatomy learning methods are still dominated by using books, in which the material is presented in pictures and writings. The anatomy learning method using books is carried out by redrawing parts and memorizing the location and its terms. Thus, students have difficulties when they forget and want to find terms on the anatomy because it is uneasy and takes a long time. This research aims to create a system to study anatomy, especially dental anatomy, through an android-based application, and provide ease of anatomy of tooth learning using Mayer’s principle of multimedia learning on application. Based on system testing and user testing results, this application can be used as a medium of information and learning about tooth anatomy. It is evidenced by black-box testing and questionnaire results.

Kota Pekanbaru telah memiliki sebuah web resmi yang berisi informasi data Covid-19 beserta infografisnya yaitu https://ppc-19.pekanbaru.go.id/ . Namun dikarenakan sistem ini berbasis website , maka masyarakat tidak akan mendapatkan notifikasi informasi mengenai Covid-19 kecuali jika mereka mengakses halaman tersebut. Oleh karena itu pada penelitian ini akan dikembangkan sebuah aplikasi mobile yang dilengkapi dengan fitur notifikasi. Fitur ini berjalan pada background service sehingga notifikasi bisa muncul setelah aplikasi di- install walaupun meski tidak digunakan. Selain itu terdapat pula perkembangan kebutuhan cek mandiri status kesehatan dan status wilayah yang akan dikunjungi. Satuan petugas juga dapat melakukan cek status kesehatan warga hanya dengan scan QR- Code dari smartphone warga dan lain sebagainya. Aplikasi ini dikembangkan dengan pendekatan hybrid menggunakan flutter dan dengan pendekatan model proses prototyping . Penggunaan metode ini guna menyesuaikan karakteristik projek sesuai kebutuhan stakeholder (dalam hal ini pemerintah) yang belum spesifik yang juga diperlukan dalam waktu cepat. Kedua pendekatan ini telah diimplementasikan pada penelitian ini sehingga projek pengembangan aplikasi dapat diselesaikan dalam waktu kurang dari dua bulan dalam tujuh kali iterasi prototyping serta menghasilkan aplikasi android. Berdasarkan pengujian, stakeholder setuju bahwa aplikasi telah sesuai dengan spesifikasi dan membawa manfaat bagi pemerintah dan masyarakat.

Pengembangan Aplikasi Monitoring Penyebaran Virus Covid-19 Berbasis Mobile Area Pekanbaru dengan Prototyping

Flutter is a development framework for building applications for mobile, web, and desktop platforms from a single codebase. Since its first official release by Google less than a couple of years ago, it is gaining so much popularity among mobile application developers, even being regarded as a game-changer. There are, however, millions of existing native apps in use that meet the requirements of a particular operating system by using its SDK. Thus, one natural question to ask is about rewriting an existing native app in Flutter. In this paper, we look at the technical side of the above question by considering Android apps written in Java. We create a Flutter version of our existing Android app written in Java to support both Android and iOS by rewriting the entire app in Flutter. We share our development experience by discussing technical issues, problems, and challenges associated with such a rewriting effort. We describe our approach as well as the lessons that we learned.

Creating Flutter Apps from Native Android Apps

This paper describes the Safe Commuting System (SCS) which aims to improve the safety of commuters in urban areas using both historical and real-time crowdsourced data (through mobile devices) about safety incidents. The SCS informs commuters about at-risk areas and will provide alternative commuting routes. The current SCS implementation includes a mobile device application that enables the collection of crowdsourced data and user notifications about safety incidents in the proximity. The crowdsourced information serves two main functions: alerting users about safety incidents and assisting residents in decision-making about safe mobility. The current SCS prototype enables the collection of data including emergency alerts through a panic button and safety incidents through user reports. User reports are organized into three different categories: (1) criminal activity, (2) perceived danger, and (3) suspicious activities. Future work includes the generation of safe routes for commuters. The SCS system can be considered a Smart Cities solution in the Smart Mobility area, given that the proposed use of technology and data fosters the safety of commuters, and thus contributes to an improved quality of life. Efforts towards informing and collecting relevant information for mobility are important to address the demands of urban areas and convert them into Smart Cities.

Towards Improving Safety in Urban Mobility Using Crowdsourcing Incident Data Collection

Java and Android applications can be written in the same programming language. Thus, it is natural to ask how much code can be shared between them. In this paper we perform a case study to measure quantitatively the amount of code that can be shared and reused for a multiplatform application running on the Java platform and the Android platform. We first configure a multiplatform development environment consisting of platform-specific tools. We then propose a general architecture for a multiplatform application under a guiding design principle of having clearly defined interfaces and employing loose coupling to accommodate platform differences and variations. Specifically, we separate our application into two parts, a platform-independent part (PIP) and a platform-dependent part (PDP), and share the PIP between platform-specific versions. Our finding is that 37%–40% of code can be shared and reused between the Java and the Android versions of our application. Interestingly, the Android version requires 8% more code than Java due to platform-specific constraints and concerns. We also learned that the quality of an application can be improved dramatically through multiplatform development.
