There are two functional elements used by humans to understand and perform actions. These elements are: the body schema and the body percept. The first one is a representation of the body that contains information of the body's capabilities. The second one is a snapshot of the body and its relation with the environment at a given instant. These elements interact in order to generate, among other abilities, the ability to imitate. This paper presents an approach to robot imitation based on these two functional elements. Our approach is gradually expanded throughout three developmental stages used by humans to refine imitation. Experimental results are presented to support the feasibility of the proposed approach at the current stage for 2D movements and simple manipulation actions.

Imitation represents a useful and promising alternative to programming robots. The approach presented here is based on two functional elements used by humans to understand and perform actions. These elements are: the body schema and the body percept. The first one is a representation of the body containing information of the body’s capabilities. The body percept is a snapshot of the body and its relation with the environment at a given instant. These elements are believed to interact between each other generating among other abilities, the ability to imitate. This paper presents our approach to robot imitation and experimental results, where a robot is able to imitate the movements of a human demonstrator via its visual observations.

Robot Imitation from Human Body Movements

We presented a new learning approach to the application of service robots, which is based on learning by imitation. Service robots need to increase their set of actions, which would lead to the ability of adapting their behaviours. In contrast with traditional learning approaches learning by imitation presents considerable advantages; equip robots with the abilities to be efficient in applications requiring human interaction. The paper offers our experiences with the first stage of our approach. Experimental results show the feasibility of such an approach.

Imitation towards service robotics

This thesis presents the desing of a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), for wireless comunication. Conteins a brief description of comunications systems, particulary the wireless ones, who works in the 2.4 GHz band of frequency. Seeing as 2.4 GHz is consederate high frequency, there is a specialy emphasis on the desing charactersitics for the devices (models and noise). The propose circuit it s found after a carefuly analysis of the desing methodology, who fulfil the request for the aplication (gain and noise figure). It is use a 0.5 μm fabrication technology to set the operation and desing parameters. The circuit it is simulated to evaluated its peerformance. The results (17 dB gain aproximately and 2.252 dB of noise figure), agree with the reference rates, so they are aceptable. The conclusion are the aplication that the circuit can have. Robot Imitation: A Matter of Body Representation

Imitation is a powerful form of learning used in many animal societies. Imitation encourages the social interaction and the cultural transfer. Hence, Imitation represents many advantages, which have inspired the roboticists to reach imitation in order to approach social intelligent social intelligent robotics systems. The paper presents a mechanism of imitation, which permits a robot to acquire new behaviours through the extraction of the goals from the perceived actions. Experimental results with a simulator are also presented to demonstrate such a mechanism.
