Effects of ritonavir and amprenavir on insulin sensitivity in healthy volunteers.
Grace A. Lee,Madhu N. Rao,Kathleen Mulligan,Joan C. Lo,Francesca T. Aweeka,Jean-Marc Schwarz,Morris Schambelan,Carl Grunfeld +7 more
TL;DR: A hierarchy of insulin resistance was observed with the greatest effect seen with indinavir followed by ritonavir and lopinavir/ritonavir, with little effect of amprenavir.

Relationship of Fat Distribution with Adipokines in Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection
Lisa A. Kosmiski,Peter Bacchetti,Donald P. Kotler,Steven B. Heymsfield,Cora E. Lewis,Michael G. Shlipak,Michael G. Shlipak,Rebecca Scherzer,Carl Grunfeld,Carl Grunfeld +9 more
TL;DR: The normal relationships between adiponectin levels and total and leg adiposity are lost in HIV-infected subjects, possibly due to changes in adipocyte function associated with HIV lipodystrophy, whereas the inverse association of adip onectin and visceral adipose tissue is maintained.

Amphiregulin and nerve growth factor expression are regulated by barrier status in murine epidermis.
TL;DR: Results suggest that barrier disruption stimulates the expression of amphiregulin and nerve growth factor, together with these regulators of keratinocyte growth and differentiation, which may be responsible for the increased proliferative response that is associated with barrier disruption.

Role for monokines in the metabolic effects of endotoxin. Interferon-gamma restores responsiveness of C3H/HeJ mice in vivo.
TL;DR: Results indicate that cytokines produced by mononuclear leukocytes mediate the lipogenic effects of LPS, and that IFN-gamma treatment partially restored the LPS-induced increase in hepatic and splenic mRNA for TNF and serum TNF levels.
Triglyceride-rich lipoproteins improve survival when given after endotoxin in rats
Thomas E. Read,Thomas E. Read,Carl Grunfeld,Carl Grunfeld,Zindaba L. Kumwenda,Zindaba L. Kumwenda,MacDonald C. Calhoun,MacDonald C. Calhoun,John P. Kane,John P. Kane,Kenneth R. Feingold,Kenneth R. Feingold,Joseph H. Rapp,Joseph H. Rapp +13 more
TL;DR: A possible therapeutic role for triglyceride-rich lipoproteins or synthetic lipid emulsions in the treatment of the endotoxemia of gram-negative sepsis is suggested.
