An elevator system includes one or more rails fixed in a hoistway and an elevator car configured to move through the hoistway along the one or more rails. The system includes one or more braking systems having one more braking surfaces secured to the elevator car and frictionally engageable with one or more rails of the elevator system. One or more actuators are operably connected to the one or more braking surfaces configured to urge engagement and/or disengagement of the one or more braking surfaces with the rail to stop and/or hold the elevator car during operation of the elevator system.

Elevator braking system

In an elevator installation an elevator cage is movable along at least two guide rails and the elevator cage is equipped with a braking system. An elevator braking device includes a brake element, a force store, which is constructed to press the brake element against the brake surface, and an actuator, which can act on the brake element and which is constructed in order to press, in a first operational setting, the brake element against the force of the force store away from the brake surface or to hold it at a spacing therefrom and in order to free, in a second operational setting, pressing of the brake element against the brake surface.

Elevator braking device

A device can actuate and reset a safety gear in an elevator system. The device contains a pressure accumulator, possibly a compression spring, which, in case of need, can move at least two engagement elements of the safety gear essentially synchronously into an engaged position, and a remotely actuatable resetting device, which can retension the pressure accumulator into a ready position.

An elevator cage is movable along at least two guide rails and the elevator cage is equipped with a braking system. The elevator braking device has a brake housing and a force store. The brake housing is mounted to be displaceable between a first position and a second position. The force store acts on the brake housing and pushes the brake housing in the direction of a second position. In addition, the elevator braking device includes an actuator which can act on the brake housing and keep the brake housing in a first position. The actuator in its first setting can hold the brake housing in the first position against the force of the force store. In a second setting the actuator enables pushing of the brake housing into the second position. A brake element is thereby brought into contact with the brake rail.

A safety brake device at a load receiving means of an elevator installation comprises brake equipment which co-operates with a guide rail of the load receiving means. The brake equipment includes a cam disc, which is rotatable about a cam disc axis and which for activation of the safety brake device is set into a rotation through an activation rotational angle, wherein the cam disc is so designed that the cam disc as a consequence of rotation through the activation rotational angle comes into contact with the guide rail, whereby the guide rail moving relative to the safety brake device when the load receiving means is travelling rotates the cam disc into a position in which the brake equipment and thus the safety brake device produce an intended braking action relative to the guide rail.

In this elevator system, a traveling body has arranged upon it a safety gear for braking and holding the traveling body tight on the guiderail, or on a braking rail. The safety gear is connected to a device for actuating the safety gear, which can also actuate the safety gear. The device for actuating the safety gear contains a coupler body, which can be pressed against the elevator hoistway, possibly against the guiderail or braking rail, wherein actuation of the safety gear is effected by a relative movement between the pressed-on coupler body and the safety gear. For this purpose, the coupler body can contain a curved coupler surface, which, in case of need, is brought into engagement with the elevator hoistway, or with the guiderail or braking rail.

Activating a safety gear

In the case of this lift installation (1), a car (3, 4) contains an intercepting apparatus (11), which is arranged on the car and is intended for braking and securing the car (3, 4) as required on the guide rail (9) or on a braking rail. The intercepting apparatus (11) is connected to an arrangement for actuating the intercepting apparatus (18), it also being possible for this arrangement to actuate the intercepting apparatus (11). The arrangement for actuating the intercepting apparatus (18) contains a driving body (20), which can be pressed, if required, against the lift shaft, preferably against the guide rail or braking rail (9), wherein the intercepting apparatus (11) is actuated by relative movement between the intercepting apparatus (11) and the driving body (20) pressed against the lift shaft. The driving body (20) contains, for this purpose, a curved driving surface (21), which is brought into engagement, if required, with the lift shaft or with the guide rail or braking rail (9).
