Mucosal loss with increased expression of IL-6, IL-8, and COX-2 in a formula-feeding only neonatal rat model of necrotizing enterocolitis
Robert Bergholz,Marcus Zschiegner,Georg Eschenburg,Katharina Wenke,Bastian Tiemann,Beate Roth,Birgit Appl,Konrad Reinshagen,Dirk W. Sommerfeldt,Ina Ridderbusch +9 more
TL;DR: A significant loss of mucosa is demonstrated in animals with NEC having increased expression levels of IL-6, IL-8 and COX-2, which appears to be a distinct feature of experimental NEC and has to be correlated with the human disease.

Submucosal plexus of dilatated gut disappears after ligation in chicken embryos: preliminary results.
TL;DR: The data suggest that distension of the gut hinders normal development of the ENS in the gut ligation model of chicken embryos, and future studies will be required to show whether the changes of theENS are reversible.

Gut inflammation and expression of ICC in a fetal lamb model of fetoscopic intervention for gastroschisis
Thomas Krebs,Michael Boettcher,Hansjörg Schäfer,Georg Eschenburg,Katharina Wenke,Birgit Appl,Beate Roth,Thomas Andreas,Carla Schmitz,Rebecca Fahje,Birthe Jacobsen,Bastian Tiemann,Konrad Reinshagen,Kurt Hecher,Robert Bergholz +14 more
TL;DR: This animal model mimics the histopathological bowel changes as seen in human gastroschisis and may, therefore, be used for further research on the pathophysiology and fetal therapy of this malformation.
Injectable liver: a novel approach using fibrin gel as a matrix for culture and intrahepatic transplantation of hepatocytes.
Helge Bruns,Ulrich Kneser,Stephanie Holzhüter,Beate Roth,Jantjeline Kluth,Peter Kaufmann,Dietrich Kluth,Henning C. Fiegel +7 more
TL;DR: Fibrin gel immobilization is an attractive tool for the development of tissue engineering-based liver support systems and direct intrahepatic injection of fibrin Gel-immobilized hepatocytes is technically feasible.
Stem-like Cells in Human Hepatoblastoma
Henning C. Fiegel,S. Glüer,Beate Roth,Johannes Rischewski,Dietrich von Schweinitz,Benno Ure,Wolfgang Lambrecht,Dietrich Kluth +7 more
TL;DR: The thesis that stem cells play a role in the histogenesis of hepatoblastoma is supported, as ductal cells co-expressing stem cell markers and hepatic lineage markers phenotypically resemble hepatic stem-like cells.
