An optical fiber sensing system for concentration measurement, based on Tipped Fiber Bragg Grating is presented. Laser Diode (LD) with wavelength of 1550 nm has been used. The Fiber Bragg Grating is cleaved by using optical cleaver. The FBG tip is immersed in different concentrations of Sodium Chloride (Nacl) solutions range from 5% to 25% and Sucrose solutions range from 10% to 50%. As the concentration of solution increases the shift in Bragg wavelength toward red region increases. The sensitivities of this sensor for different concentrations of Nacl solutions and Sucrose solutions are 8. 3 × 10−8μm/(%w/v) and 3. 085 × 10−6 μm/(% w/v),respectively..

Tipped Fiber Bragg Grating sensor for concentration measurements

In this paper we present the results of the optical studies of the reflected light intensity changes of carbonpalladium or carbon-palladium-nickel films under the influences of gases: hydrogen, methane and carbon dioxide. Carbon-palladium film (C-Pd films) and two types of carbon-palladium-nickel films (C-Pd-Ni films) respond to a variety of gases 2 % H 2 /N 2 ; 2 % CH 4 /N 2 ; 5 % CO 2 /N 2 . Different varieties of films can be used to build selective optical sensors for various gases. Studied films were obtained by Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) method. Film’s structure and morphology were studied with TEM and FTIR, film's topography was investigated with AFM and SEM.

The fast industrial developments result in newly created devices in a wide range of applications. Sensors families are one of the most important instruments in industries which provide various useful facilities in controlling and monitoring applications. Precise displacement sensors are needed in any moving applications. The measurement of the linear displacement in the electromechanical systems is a special issue in industries. Linear displacement measuring not only is needed to provide a suitable control system in various systems but also it is necessary to protect some devices in industrial applications such as turbine and generator shafts. In this paper, a low-cost, robust, non-contact, and high precision linear displacement sensor is proposed. The mechanical structure and electrical circuit are two special parts of the sensor. A load cell works as a transducer which converts the mechanical tension to voltage data set. An industrial setup of the sensor is provided and tested to demonstrate the system accuracy and effectiveness in the linear displacement measurement.

The huge nightmare defying Africa’s economy
known as pipeline vandalism had obviously rendered all forms of
protection innovations abortive because these innovations were
strictly centered on a lone and narrow method of “sensor this;
sensor that” type of protection design. Although prevalent in
rural communities, it is clear that the perpetrators of this crime
are no novice to plugging out the sensor based
detection/protection systems’ eye/ear before they carry out any
operation; therefore, it becomes needful for the introduction of a
thoughtful and appropriate method of protection that will ensure
a global permanent solution to this atrocious nightmare.
Consequently, this paper proposes the utilization of the internet
in pipeline protection against vandalism; it also demonstrates the
utilization of the Internet in the protection of pipelines taking
into cognizance an accurate measure and comparison of the
physical quantities around the conveyed fluid.

Modelling and Analysis of Powerline Temperature Surveillance with Optisystem Simulation

A sensor is a device that measures a physical quantity and converts it into a signal which can be read by an observer or by an instrument. A sensor is a device which receives and responds to a signal. A sensor's sensitivity indicates how much the sensor's output changes when the measured quantity changes. Sensors that measure very small changes must have very high sensitivities. Sensing and measuring is one aspect of information generation that will become an increasingly important activity in the coming years. In this paper the overview , types and future applications of fiber optic sensors is discussed.
