Primary IgA nephropathy is more severe in TGF-beta1 high secretor patients.
B. Brezzi,Dorella Del Prete,A. Lupo,Riccardo Magistroni,M. Gomez Lira,P. Bernich,Franca Anglani,Federica Mezzabotta,Alberto Turco,L. Furci,Monica Ceol,F Antonucci,C. Abaterusso,Luciana Bonfante,Angela D'Angelo,Alberto Albertazzi,Giovanni Gambaro +16 more
TL;DR: In primary IgA nephropathy, the T allele of the T GF-beta1 COD 10 C/T polymorphism seems to be associated with more severe histological lesions, higher renal TGF- beta1 mRNA levels and a worse prognosis.

A validated model of disease progression in IgA nephropathy.
Richardo Magistroni,L. Furci,Marco Leonelli,Mario Masellis,Giulia Ligabue,L Lucchi,Antonio Lupo,B. Brezzi,Giovanni Gambaro,Luca Manganelli,Giada Pedrazzi,Marco Ricardi,Luisa Bormioli,Alberto Albertazzi +13 more
TL;DR: A clinical prognostic index (CPI) is defined using multivariate analysis, which incorporated clinical and/or histological parameters for disease progression in IgAN cases collected since 1981 and is convenient to use for defining the risk of disease progression.

Precocious activation of genes of the renin-angiotensin system and the fibrogenic cascade in IgA glomerulonephritis
Dorella Del Prete,Giovanni Gambaro,Antonio Lupo,Franca Anglani,B. Brezzi,Riccardo Magistroni,R. Graziotto,L. Furci,Francesca Modena,Patrizia Bernich,Alberto Albertazzi,Angela D'Angelo,Giuseppe Maschio +12 more
TL;DR: A tight regulation of the intrarenal RAS exists in IgAN and it appears that such activation drives inflammation and a parallel stimulation of the TGF-beta fibrogenic loop, particularly at the tubulointerstitial level.
