Review of the most common pre-processing techniques for near-infrared spectra
TL;DR: This review describes and compares the theoretical and algorithmic foundations of current pre- processing methods plus the qualitative and quantitative consequences of their application to provide NIR users with better end-models through fundamental knowledge on spectral pre-processing.

Application of near infrared reflectance (NIR) and fluorescence spectroscopy to analysis of microbiological and chemical properties of arctic soil
TL;DR: In this paper, the applicability of near infrared reflectance (NIR) and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques was tested on highly organic arctic soil, and partial least-squares regression methods with cross-validation were used to analyse relationships between the spectroscopy data and the chemical and microbiological data derived from the conventional analyses.
Effects of species-specific leaf characteristics and reduced water availability on fine particle capture efficiency of trees
Janne V. Räsänen,Toini Holopainen,Jorma Joutsensaari,Collins Ndam,Pertti Pasanen,Åsmund Rinnan,Minna Kivimäenpää +6 more
TL;DR: Among the broadleaved species, low leaf wettability, low stomatal density and leaf hairiness increased particle capture, and moderate soil drought tended to increase particle capture efficiency of P. sylvestris.

Untargeted Metabolomics as a Screening Tool for Estimating Compliance to a Dietary Pattern
Maj-Britt Schmidt Andersen,Åsmund Rinnan,Claudine Manach,Sanne Kellebjerg Poulsen,Estelle Pujos-Guillot,Thomas Meinert Larsen,Arne Astrup,Lars O. Dragsted +7 more
TL;DR: Untargeted metabolomics is a promising approach to develop compliance measures that cover the most important discriminant metabolites of complex diets, including citrus, cocoa-containing products, and fish.

Pre-processing in vibrational spectroscopy – when, why and how
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss and tell what kind of information the pre-processing can tell the user about the data, as well as some common pitfalls, and discuss three different examples.
