Size-Fractionated Microbiome Structure in Subarctic Rivers and a Coastal Plume Across DOC and Salinity Gradients
TL;DR: There was a downstream increase in taxonomic richness along the GWR, suggesting that sub-catchment inputs influence microbial community structure in the absence of sharp environmental gradients, and the core microbiome indicated that while a substantial part of all communities consisted of generalists, most taxa had a more limited environmental range and may be sensitive to ongoing change.
Strategic positioning of the Arctic region as an object of territorial development (on the example of the Hatangsko-Anabarsky region)
Nikolay G. Shishatsky,Elena A. Bryukhanova,Valery S. Efimov,Alexander Matveev +3 more
- 01 Nov 2016
TL;DR: In this article, Shishatsky et al. analyzes the current state and problems of social and economic development of the region located in the Arctic zone of Eastern Siberia at the territory of two entities of the Russian Federation (Krasnoyarsk region and Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in the catchment of rivers Khatanga and Anabar, running into Laptev Sea of the Arctic Ocean.

Contamination analysis of Arctic ice samples as planetary field analogs and implications for future life-detection missions to Europa and Enceladus
Lígia F. Coelho,Marie-Amélie Blais,Alexander Matveev,Tina Keller-Costa,Warwick F. Vincent,R. Costa,Zita Martins,João Canário +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors developed a comprehensive protocol that can be used to monitor and minimize the contamination of Arctic ice cores in processing and downstream analysis, and they physically removed the exterior layers of ice cores to minimize bioburden from sampling.
Diverse winter communities and biogeochemical cycling potential in the under-ice microbial plankton of a subarctic river-to-sea continuum.
Marie-Amélie Blais,Warwick F. Vincent,Adrien Vigneron,Aurélie Labarre,Alexander Matveev,Lígia F. Coelho,Connie Lovejoy +6 more
TL;DR: Diverse winter communities and biogeochemical cycling potential in the under-ice microbial plankton of a subarctic river-to-sea continuum. Winter microbial communities are diverse in taxonomic composition and metabolically versatile in terms of energy and carbon acquisition.

Size‐dependent community patterns differ between microbial eukaryotes and bacteria in a permafrost lake–river–sea continuum
Marie-Amélie Blais,Alexander Matveev,Connie Lovejoy,Warwick F. Vincent +3 more
TL;DR: It is shown how different components of riverine microbial communities can have divergent patterns along the downstream continuum to the sea.
