A method for logging and reporting driver activity and vehicle operation includes identifying a driver of a vehicle, recording operating data with an on-board recorder that is hard-wired to an engine control module, coupled to a mileage sensing system, and linked to a global navigation satellite system, and recording duty status of the driver. An hours of service log and a fuel tax log are created from the operating data. The method includes comparing the driver's hours of service log to an applicable requirement, indicating to the driver whether the driver is in-compliance or out-of-compliance with the applicable requirement, automatically uploading the logs to a receiver external to the vehicle using a wireless telecommunications network, and emitting a compliance signal representative of whether the driver is in-compliance or out-of-compliance with the applicable requirement to a second receiver external to the vehicle and under control of authorities.

A system, an apparatus, and methods are provided for data communications associated with a vehicle. The apparatus preferably includes at least one electronic subsystem associated with the vehicle and a plurality of electrical conductors connected to the at least one electronic subsystem and associated with the vehicle. A vehicle data communications protocol converter is preferably connected to the plurality of electrical conductors for converting a first data communications protocol associated with data communications along the plurality of electrical conductors to a second data communications protocol such as an infrared, an RF data, an Internet, or other network communications protocol. The apparatus also preferably includes a transceiver connected to the data communications protocol converter for transmitting the second data communications protocol from the vehicle and receiving the data communications protocol from another portion of the vehicle, a remote data communications terminal, another vehicle, or another communications network.

An apparatus and methods are provided for data communications associated with a heavy duty vehicle. The apparatus preferably includes at least one electronic subsystem associated with the heavy duty vehicle and a plurality of electrical conductors connected to the at least one electronic subsystem and associated with the heavy duty vehicle. A vehicle data communications protocol converter is preferably connected to the plurality of electrical conductors for converting a first data communications protocol associated with data communications along the plurality of electrical conductors to a second data communications protocol such as an infrared or an RF data communications protocol. The apparatus also preferably includes a transceiver connected to the data communications protocol converter for transmitting the second data communications protocol from the heavy duty vehicle and receiving the data communications protocol from a remote data communications terminal.

In a PC card connector, first and second support shafts are mounted upright on a pin housing, and each provided with a pair of fall-preventive sections at the leading end thereof. A first turn arm is provided with a circular hole, a protrusion, a tongue, a concave section on the rim of the circular hole, and a pair of cutouts that cross the concave section, and the circular hole is fitted on the first support shaft through the cutouts so that the first turn arm can move pivotally. A second turn arm is formed similarly to the first turn arm, and a circular hole thereof is fitted on the second support shaft so that the second turn arm can move pivotally. A drive lever is provided with a circular hole, an engaging section, a coupling hole, a thin concave section formed on the rim of the circular hole, and a pair of cutouts that cross the concave section. The circular hole is fitted on the first support shaft through the cutouts so that the drive lever can move pivotally, and the drive lever and the first turn arm are prevented from falling off by the fall-preventive sections of the first support shaft. The tongues of the turn arms are engaged with the coupling hole of the drive lever, and the engaging section is engaged with a push-rod.

A vehicle electric power distribution apparatus is provided which includes a plurality of vertically stacked conductive circuit layers, each layer including an array of contact pads, a layer of electrically insulating plastic material between each of the conductive circuit layers, at least some of the contact pads are electrically connected to selected other contact pads of the same conductive circuit layer via integrally formed conductive traces. In addition to the stacked circuit layers the apparatus includes a plurality of conductive pins providing electrical contact between selected contact pads of different selected conductive circuit layers.

An electric power distribution system having a plurality of conductive plates (204-206), wherein each conductive plate includes an arrangement of contact pads (208) that are electrically connected to other contact pads via integrally formed conductive traces. These conductive plates can be vertically stacked, with electrical contact between selected contact pads on different conductive plates being provided by conductive pins (210). Each conductive plate is selectively coated with an insulating layer to obviate unwanted electrical contact.
