TL;DR: In this paper, an optical system for imaging a portion of the windshield on to an image array sensor, such as a CMOS active pixel sensor, is used to detect the level of fog on the interior and exterior of the vehicle.
Abstract: A control system for automatically detecting moisture on the windshield of a vehicle. The automatic moisture detecting system includes an optical system for imaging a portion of the windshield on to an image array sensor, such as a CMOS active pixel sensor. The voltages of each of the pixels which represents the illumination level is converted to a corresponding gray scale value by an analog digital converter. The gray scale values corresponding to the image are stored in memory. The spatial frequency composition of the gray scale values are analyzed to determine the amount of rain present. In order to provide a control signal to control the operation of the windshield wipers of the vehicle as a function of the amount of moisture present. The system is also adapted to detect the level of fog both on the interior of the windshield as well as the exterior of the windshield. By providing a system for automatically detecting the presence of fog on the interior and exterior of the windshield, serious performance limitations of known automatic rain sensors are eliminated.

TL;DR: In this paper, a laminated windshield incorporating a head up display device and a device displaying an image on such a laminate windshield is described. The windshield includes an assembly of two transparent sheets of inorganic glass or of an impact-resistant organic material of polycarbonate PC type, connected together by an insert of a thermo-formable material or by a multilayer leaf incorporating such an insert, and at least one layer of a luminophore material chosen to respond to an exciting incident light wave in the ultraviolet or IR region by re-emitting light radiation
Abstract: A laminated windshield incorporating a head up display device and a device displaying an image on such a laminated windshield. The windshield includes an assembly of two transparent sheets of inorganic glass or of an impact-resistant organic material of polycarbonate PC type, connected together by an insert of a thermoformable material or by a multilayer leaf incorporating such an insert, and at least one layer of at least one luminophore material chosen to respond to an exciting incident light wave in the ultraviolet or IR region by re-emitting light radiation in the visible region, the layer being positioned on the windshield, at an angle of vision of a driver, in a region of a layer of opaque material disposed on at least one of edges of the windshield.
TL;DR: In this paper, a control circuit for a windshield wiper motor is disclosed in which the motor is made automatically responsive to the presence of moisture droplets on the windshield causing the wiper blades to sweep back and forth at a rate dependent upon the level of precipitation encountered.
Abstract: A control circuit for a windshield wiper motor is disclosed in which the wiper motor is made automatically responsive to the presence of moisture droplets on the windshield causing the wiper blades to sweep back and forth at a rate dependent upon the level of precipitation encountered. By using a set of sample-and-hold circuits (322, 324), bandpass filtering (330) and a differential amplifier (320) under microprocessor control (336), disturbances to the system due to changes in ambient light are linearly rejected and the system becomes immune to such disturbances. The system utilizes an intentional-retrigger algorithm enabling the system to detect water droplets that miss the sensor (50) yet fall within the area of the windshield (304) which is swept by the wiper blades. The system automatically adapts to windshields of differing transmittance and is not falsely set into action by electromagnetic disturbances.
TL;DR: In this article, a driver operates a car by watching an intersection number and an arrow which indicate direction by reflecting the information in the front windshield, the indicated arrow direction shows the direction in which the car is advancing.
Abstract: A driver operates a car by watching an intersection number and an arrow which indicate direction by reflecting the information in the front windshield. The indicated arrow direction shows the direction in which the car is advancing. Accordingly, the driver does not need to observe the indicator displayed on the dashboard during operation and can drive more safely by concentrating his energy on operating the car. In the navigation system for cars, the advancing direction of the car at an intersection is previously designated by the driver, information regarding driving straight or turning is projected by a projector which includes an LCD or a fluorescent indicator tube whenever the car approaches the intersection based on the information, the above projected light is projected on a half-mirror provided at the front windshield of the car and an imaginary image is reflected before the front glass.
