TL;DR: The Know Your Meme (KYM) website has become a frequently cited resource among Web researchers, and as a result it has become instrumental in establishing dominant histories of memes on the Web as mentioned in this paper .
Abstract: As memes circulate and spread throughout different Web communities, their meanings are continually changing. In the last decade, the website Know Your Meme (KYM) has become popular among researchers, educators, and day-to-day Web users to understand memes and their meanings. KYM is a frequently cited resource among Web researchers, and as a result it has become instrumental in establishing dominant histories of memes on the Web. Though KYM remains an invaluable resource, it is often cited with minimal context, and an uncritical reliance on KYM’s definitions may overlook the polysemy of many memes. Accordingly, this paper uses a discursive interface analysis of the KYM website along with examples of incomplete meme definitions to demonstrate how the website constructs itself as a cultural authority to define and classify memes. Given that memes themselves are artifacts of Web history, I argue the overreliance on KYM as an authority on memes and their history can contribute to the homogenization of Web histories. However, this paper acknowledges that KYM can still be a useful resource and to that end, offers recommendations for how researchers might better introduce and contextualize KYM within their own work.

TL;DR: The Resource Guide is a unified platform curated and administered by subject specialists, librarians, and liaisons, offering users access to a wide array of resources as discussed by the authors, which serves as a comprehensive tool to assist users in locating resources specific to their subject areas.
Abstract: The Resource Guide is a unified platform curated and administered by subject specialists, librarians, and liaisons, offering users access to a wide array of resources. Traditionally known by various names such as Pathfinder, bibliography, virtual reference collection, online guide, online tutorial, toolkit, or web guide, it serves as a comprehensive tool. Its primary purpose is to assist users in locating resources specific to their subject areas, staying updated on new resources, and connecting them to relevant, easily understandable information. At Central Library, IIT Delhi, diverse platforms like the library website, social media, online catalogues, Pathfinder, single search engine, and mobile app are utilized to promote library resources. However, these platforms may lack subject-level resources. This raises the question of designing and developing an online platform or resource base that consolidates and enables users to access various resources, including print resources, e-resources, professional development resources, open-access resources, and social media resources. This endeavour aims to meet the present and future needs of users in their respective disciplines. To explore this concept further, a pilot implementation of a web-based resource guide has been initiated at Central Library, IIT Delhi. This paper investigates how SubjectsPlus, an open-source tool, can facilitate the creation and management of web-based resource guides that promote the use of library and scholarly resources on the web.
TL;DR: The use of web resources for academic pursuit is influenced by factors such as speedy information retrieval, ease of access, no need for advanced search skills, and time saving compared to library e-resources. User category has a significant influence on the factors influencing the use of web for academic purpose.
Abstract: This paper examines the factors accountable for users’ tendency to use the free web resources for achievingtheir academic goals and also the reasons that prevented the users from using the credible sources of the libraryfor their academic needs. Further, this study also attempted to ascertain whether user category has any influenceon the factors which boost the use of web for academic purpose. A questionnaire- based survey was conductedfor five universities of Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab including post graduate students, research scholars andfaculty members. The findings showed that a majority of respondents from three categories chose the web becauseof the speedy retrieval of information, ease of access, no need for any advanced search skills to search on internetand further it saved their time when compared with the online e-resources subscribed by the library. Most of themfound it difficult to physically visit the library. They were not familiar with which e-resources were available onsubscribed databases or on the web. About half of users stated that no updation was made on the library websiteabout newly subscribed e-resources. Discontinued e-resources were not removed from library website when userssearched them for information and found nothing. The paper recommends that user education programmes shouldbe conducted and the interface of the library should be made user friendly so as to encourage the users to useauthentic information from the e-resources subscribed by the library for academic purpose.
