Abstract: Warehouse Management examines how to operate an efficient and cost effective warehouse. It includes guidance on using the latest technology, reducing inventory, people management and location and design.Warehouses are an integral part of the modern supply chain; involved in the sourcing, production and distribution of goods. Due to the complexities of warehouse operations they can often be one of the most costly parts of the supply chain. Their efficient management is therefore critical in terms of minimizing cost and contributing to an effective and efficient supply chain.Warehouse Management provides a complete guide to best practice in warehouse operations. As well as exploring how to increase warehouse productivity and cost reduction it also includes the latest technological advances being applied to warehouses, as well as information on recent Health and Safety legislation. Other crucial topics covered include; people management, risk, warehouse design and how to operate a third party warehouse. The book is backed up with numerous case studies which demonstrate how to apply new technology, minimize spend and create efficient stream-line operations. It is an invaluable resource for warehouse managers, logistics professionals and students studying logistics.
TL;DR: In this paper, a mathematical model and a heuristic algorithm are presented to jointly determine product allocation to the functional areas in the warehouse as well as the size of each area using data readily available to a warehouse manager.
Abstract: The two primary functions of a warehouse include (1) temporary storage and protection of goods and (2) providing value added services such as fulfilment of individual customer orders, packaging of goods, after sales services, repairs, testing, inspection and assembly. To perform the above functions, the warehouse is divided into several functional areas such as reserve storage area, forward (order collation) area and cross-docking. The paper presents a mathematical model and a heuristic algorithm that jointly determine product allocation to the functional areas in the warehouse as well as the size of each area using data readily available to a warehouse manager.
TL;DR: In this article, a deterministic inventory model is developed for a single deteriorating item which is stored in two different warehouses, where a rented warehouse is used to store the excess units over the fixed capacity of the own warehouse.
TL;DR: A particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) as a novel heuristic was developed for determining the optimal layout of a multiple-level warehouse shelf configuration which minimizes the annual carrying costs.
TL;DR: In this paper, an integrated simulation model has been built to examine this interaction and the results highlight the key effects of inventory management on warehouse-related greenhouse gas emissions, finding that decisions on supply lead times, reorder quantities, and storage equipment all have an impact on costs and emissions.
