Abstract: We present GamiCAD, a gamified in-product, interactive tutorial system for first time AutoCAD users. We introduce a software event driven finite state machine to model a user's progress through a tutorial, which allows the system to provide real-time feedback and recognize success and failures. GamiCAD provides extensive real-time visual and audio feedback that has not been explored before in the context of software tutorials. We perform an empirical evaluation of GamiCAD, comparing it to an equivalent in-product tutorial system without the gamified components. In an evaluation, users using the gamified system reported higher subjective engagement levels and performed a set of testing tasks faster with a higher completion ratio.
TL;DR: This edition offers an updated, dynamic art program (online, on CD, and in the text), new content to keep you current with developments in the organic chemistry field, and a revised lab manual.
Abstract: Offering practical, real-life applications, coverage of basic concepts, and an engaging visual style, this proven book offers a writing style, approach, and selection of topics ideal for non-chemistry science majors. This edition offers an updated, dynamic art program (online, on CD, and in the text), new content to keep you current with developments in the organic chemistry field, and a revised lab manual. Benefits: NEW! OWL INTEGRATION. Improve student learning outcomes with OWL, the #1 online homework and learning system for chemistry. Developed by chemistry instructors for teaching chemistry, OWL includes course management tools that make homework management a breeze, as well as advanced reporting and grade book features that save time in grading homework and tracking student progress. OWL enables you to address students' different learning styles through tutorials, simulations, visualization exercises, and algorithmically-generated homework questions with answer-specific feedback. With OWL's mastery learning approach, students work at their own pace until they understand each concept/skill. OWL includes an eBook, enhanced with multimedia learning tools. ACCOMPANYING LABORATORY MANUAL. Developed with the assistance of co-author T.K. Vinod at Western Illinois University, the lab manual includes an experiment on green chemistry, pre-laboratory exercises, and safety instructions to students. NEW! INTEGRATION WITH THE LEADING ONLINE HOMEWORK AND TUTORIAL SYSTEM. OWL's step-by-step tutorials, interactive simulations, and homework questions with instant question-specific feedback help you every step of the way as you master tough chemistry concepts and skills. OWL encourages you to learn at your own pace, ensuring that you've mastered each concept before you move on. OWL includes an e-version of your textbook, enhanced with rich multimedia learning tools and available 24/7 in OWL. NEW! NEW PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS. This edition offers
TL;DR: In this paper, an interactive online tutorial system for providing instruction in the use of a software product operating on a data processing device is described, which includes an instruction processing unit or CPU, a data storage resource, an input system for receiving input from a user via a mouse or keyboard, and output system for generating output images on a video display.
Abstract: An interactive online tutorial system is disclosed for providing instruction in the use of a software product operating on a data processing device. The data processing device including an instruction processing unit or CPU, a data storage resource, an input system for receiving input from a user via a mouse or keyboard, and an output system for generating output images on a video display. The tutorial system includes a first display control for generating a tutorial window in a first portion of the video display. A second display control is provided for generating a product window in a second portion of the video display. A tutorial presentation system selectively generates a plurality of tutorial text panels in response to input from the input system. The tutorial text panels include one or more lesson panels and one or more step panels associated with each lesson panel. A tutorial panel linking system links the lesson panels through a series of sequential links and links the lesson panels and their associated step panels through a series of hierarchical links. A series of tutorial panel selectors are provided for selectively activating from a lesson or step panel a link to another lesson or step panel in order to display the linked panel.
TL;DR: In this article, a tutorial system and method is provided to send online media production lessons and other data to one or more students over a computer network, such as the global Internet or an organization's intranet.
Abstract: A tutorial system and method is provided to send online media production lessons and other data to one or more students over a computer network, such as the global Internet or an organization's intranet. A tutorial management server communicates with a plurality of student workstations, instructor workstations and integrated, fully automated media production systems. The tutorial management server includes a matriculation manager that registers and maintains system security. A curriculum manager controls the routing of lesson contents to each student. Tutorial management server also includes devices that evaluates each student's proficiency and performance and creates a study guide to assist the student in improving overall performance. A messaging manager is provided to support real time communications among the students and their instructors. In an embodiment, the tutorial management server guides the student in generating a script or broadcast instructions to pre-produce a live or live-to-tape media production.
