Abstract: The methanol extracts of three medicinal plants named Phyllunthus freternus,Triumfetta rhomboidae and Casuarina littorea were examined for their possible regulatory effect on nitric oxide (NO) levels using sodium nitroprusside as a NO donor in vitro. Most of the extracts tested demonstrated direct scavenging of NO and exihibited significant activity and the potency of scavenging activity was in the following order: Phyllunthus freternus > Leaves of Triumfetta rhomboidae > Casuarina littorea > barks of Triumfetta rhomboidae > roots of Triumfetta rhomboidae. All the evaluated extracts exhibited a dose dependent NO scavenging activity. The methanolic extracts of Phyllunthus freternus showed the greatest NO scavenging effect of 60.80% at 200 µg/ml with IC50 values 48.27 µg/ml as compared to the positive control ascorbic acid where 96.27% scavenging was observed at similar concentration with IC50 value of 5.47 µg/ml. The maximum NO scavenging of Leaves ofTriumfetta rhomboidae, barks of Triumfetta rhomboidae, roots of Triumfetta rhomboidae andCasuarina littorea were 53.94%, 50.43%, 33.23% and 54.02% with IC50 values 97.81 µg/ml, 196.89 µg/ml, > 200 µg/ml and 168.17 µg/ml respectively. The present results suggest that these plants might be potent and novel therapeutic agents for scavenging of NO and the regulation of pathological conditions caused by excessive generation of NO and its oxidation product.

Abstract: Two new ceramides, triumfettamide (1) and triumfettoside Ic (2), characterized as (2R,6Z)-2-hydroxy-N-[(2S,3S,4R)-1,3,4-trihydroxyhexacosan-2-yl]heptadec-6-enamide and (2R)-N-{(1S,2R,3E,6Z, 9Z,12Z,15Z)-1-[(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)methyl]-2-hydroxyheneicosa-3,6,9,12,15-pentaen-1-yl}-2-hydroxytetradecanamide, respectively, were isolated from the stems of Triumfetta cordifoliaA. Rich. besides eight known secondary metabolites identified as heptadecanoic acid, β-sitosterol glucopyranoside, friedelin, lupeol, betulin, maslinic acid, 2-hydroxyoleanolic acid and the mixture of stigmasterol and β-sitosterol. Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic methods as well as HR-MALDI-FT-ICR-MS analysis, chemical transformation, and by comparison of their physical and spectral data with those reported in the literature and with authentic specimens for some known compounds. Five pentacyclic triterpenoids, friedelin, lupeol, betulin, maslinic acid, and 2-hydroxyoleanolic acid, have been isolated from Triumfetta genus for the first time.
TL;DR: Pollen morphology of 12 species distributed in 3 genera viz., Corchorus, Grewia and Triumfetta were examined by light microscope (LM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).
Abstract: Pollen morphology of 12 species distributed in 3 genera viz., Corchorus, Grewia and Triumfetta were examined by light microscope (LM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Pollen grains generally tricolporate, prolate, sexine thicker or thinner than nexine. Exine ornamentation reticulate or rugulate to reticulate often rugulate. On the basis of exine pattern three pollen types are recognized viz., 1) Corchorus aestuans-type, 2) Corchorus depressus type, 3) Corchorus tridens-type.
TL;DR: From this plant, β-sitosterol, Friedelin, friedelinol, quercetin, 2,6-dimethoxy-1,4-benzoquinone, and rosmarinic acid are identified.
Abstract: Triumfetta bartramia Linn. is a folk medicine used in Taiwan. From this plant we identified β-sitosterol, friedelin, friedelinol, quercetin, 2,6-dimethoxy-1,4-benzoquinone, and rosmarinic acid. The identification of these compounds was confirmed by spectral methods and comparison with authentic samples.
