Abstract: A surface discharge device performing functions of a trigger and electron beam generator includes a cylinder shaped member formed from a dielectric material with dielectric constant e>100, in which a central opening is formed having a conical or cylindrical shape. An internal electrode is electrically coupled to the internal surface of the cylinder shaped member. An external electrode covers the external surface of the cylinder shaped member. A triggering pulse is applied between the external and internal electrodes to generate emission of electrons in the central opening and formation of the conducting plasma to ignite the device and serve as a source of electrons for generating an electron beam. The conducting plasma charges a capacitor formed by the cylinder shaped dielectric member and the external electrode. The cylinder shaped member is positioned in a hollow cathode having a central bore hole in the bottom. An anode is positioned remotely from the cathode and an electric field exists dynamically in space between the cathode and anode for at least a portion of the duration of the triggering pulse.
TL;DR: In this article, a video inspection system and a method for facilitating inspection of a rail component while traveling on the railroad track is presented. But the system is not suitable for the inspection of railway components.
Abstract: A video inspection system and method for facilitating inspection of a rail component while traveling on the railroad track. The system includes a light source that provides illumination to a rail of the railroad track, a triggering device for automatically providing a trigger signal, a camera adapted to provide an image of the illuminated rail component, and a computing device adapted to capture the image provided by the camera based on the trigger signal. A method for inspecting rail components is also provided, the method including the steps of illuminating a rail of the railroad track, automatically providing a trigger signal, providing a camera adapted to provide an image of the rail component, and capturing the image of the rail component that is provided by the camera based on the trigger signal.
TL;DR: In this article, a dual technology sensor which uses both ultrasonic and infrared sensors is described, and the electronic circuit of the invention requires detection by both sensors to activate the load, thus, false triggering will not occur unless the false triggering device both emits heat and moves.
Abstract: A dual technology sensor which uses both ultrasonic and infrared sensors is disclosed The electronic circuit of the invention requires detection by both sensors to activate the load Thus, false triggering will not occur unless the false triggering device both emits heat and moves The avoid having the motion sensor inadvertently turn off while the person is still present, only one of the infrared and ultrasonic sensors is required to be detecting to maintain the activated state
TL;DR: In this article, a system for remote operation of a personal hygiene appliance which includes any one of a toilet flush valve, a faucet, a shower head, soap dispenser, a hand dryer, and a paper towel dispenser is described.
Abstract: A system for remote operation of a personal hygiene appliance which includes any one of a toilet flush valve, a faucet, a shower head, a soap dispenser, a hand dryer, and a paper towel dispenser, includes an electric operator associated with each appliance for causing operation thereof. A radio receiver is associated with each appliance, which, upon receipt of a message unique to that appliance, will cause its operation. There is a triggering device, remote from the appliance, which may be for example an infrared sensor or a manually operated switch for signaling an intent to cause operation of the appliance. There is a transmitter and a receiver associated with the triggering device. Each triggering device associated transmitter is programmed to transmit a message unique to that specific appliance. There is an indicator located at each triggering device and a receiver associated with the indicator. When the triggering device transmits a message unique thereto, it is received at the appliance receiver which will cause operation of the appliance and will cause the appliance transmitter to send an acknowledgment message back to the triggering device receiver, which in turn will activate the indicator indicating that the transmitted message was received.
TL;DR: In this article, a wheel identifying device consisting of a plurality of transceivers, a triggering device, a receiver, and a wheel identifier is presented, which works to identify, for each of the response signals received by the receiver, the wheel on which the transceiver having transmitted the response signal is located.
Abstract: A wheel identifying apparatus according to the present invention includes a plurality of transceivers, a triggering device, a receiver, and a wheel identifier. Each of the transceivers is located on one of a plurality of wheels of a vehicle and works to receive a trigger signal and transmit a response signal in response to receipt of the trigger signal. The triggering device is located on a body of the vehicle at different distances from the transceivers and works to transmit the trigger signal. The receiver works to receive the response signals transmitted by the transceivers. The wheel identifier is operatively connected to the receiver and works to identify, for each of the response signals received by the receiver, the wheel on which the transceiver having transmitted the response signal is located using the fact that strengths of the trigger signal at the transceivers are different from each other.
