Abstract: Pyrolysis process of sugarcane bagasse and sugarcane straw was studied with the objective of determining the kinetic parameters activation energy (E), logarithm of pre-exponential factor (log A) in agreement with converted fraction (α). The determination of kinetic parameters was done through software thermokinetics by NETZSCH, which associated “Model Free” package enabled the determination of these parameters by Friedman and Ozawa–Flynn–Wall isoconversion models and a probable mechanism that describes the thermal decomposition process of these materials. The thermal degradation of sugarcane bagasse and sugarcane straw was carried out in the range of 303–1073 K under nitrogen flow and the heating rate used was 5, 10, 15, and 20 K min−1. The obtained results showed that the most appropriate kinetic model to describe the thermal decomposition of sugarcane bagasse was the autocatalytic reactions model in three parallel stages (F
n
C
n
C
n model) and for sugarcane straw was also the autocatalytic reactions model for two parallels reactions (F

C
n model).
TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-step reactions kinetic model was established based on the thermogravimetric (TG) experiment coupled with Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometer and combined with the NETZSCH Thermokinetics numerical tool to determine a comprehensive kinetic model.
TL;DR: In this paper, the thermokinetics of the thermal transformation of metakaolinite to metakaolin was investigated using model-free and model-based thermokinetic methods.
Abstract: Present study depicts the extension of the method of the application of the advanced kinetic description of the energetic materials decomposition by its combination with the exact heat balance carried out by numerical analysis and the determination of the self-accelerating decomposition temperature (SADT). Moreover, the additional parameters such as thermal conductivity of the self-reactive substances, the type of containers and insulation layers, and different temperature profiles of the surrounding environment were taken into consideration. The results of DSC experiments carried out with different heating rates in the range of 0.25–4°C min−1 were elaborated by the Thermokinetics software. The application the Thermal Safety software and the kinetics-based approach led to proper selection of experimental conditions for SADT testing. The applied approach enabled the simulation of such scenario as the thermal ignition of self-reactive chemicals conditioned previously for 12 h at 80°C and exposed later isothermally for 8 h to temperatures between 120–180°C. Described method can be used for analysis of possible development of runaway during storage or transport of dangerous goods (TDG) and containers, and subsequent choice of the conditions that can prevent an accident.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the thermo-oxidative degradation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in static air atmosphere, at four heating rates, namely 3, 5, 10 and 15 K min−1.
Abstract: The thermo-oxidative degradation of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) has been investigated by TG+DTG+DTA simultaneous analysis performed in static air atmosphere, at four heating rates, namely 3, 5, 10 and 15 K min−1. TG, DTG and DTA curves showed that, in the temperature range 25–700°C, four successive processes occur. The first process consisting in the loss of physical adsorbed water is followed by three processes of thermal and/or thermo-oxidative degradations. The processing of the non-isothermal data corresponding to the second process (the first process of thermo-oxidation) was performed by using Netzsch Thermokinetics — A Software Module for Kinetic Analysis. The dependence of the activation energy evaluated by Friedman’s isoconversional method on the conversion degree shows that the investigated process is complex one. The mechanism of this process and the corresponding kinetic parameters were determined by Multivariate Non-linear Regression Program and checked for quasi-isothermal experimenta...
