TL;DR: In this paper, a model predictive direct speed control (MP-DSC) is proposed, which overcomes limitations of cascaded linear controllers and selects plant inputs based on the predicted speed error.
Abstract: Servo drives and drives for position control require a high dynamic on speed control. In this paper, model predictive direct speed control (MP-DSC) is proposed, which overcomes limitations of cascaded linear controllers. The novel concept predicts the future current and speed states in discrete steps and it selects plant inputs which depends mainly on the predicted speed error. Secondary control objectives, such as maximum torque per ampere tracking are included. MP-DSC uses the finite control set approach which makes it suitable for online predictions with a prediction horizon of a few sample periods. The concept has been developed by simulation and evaluated on an experimental test bench. The overall control behavior is evaluated applying reference and disturbance steps to the system, where MP-DSC shows promising results. A solution for disturbance (e.g., load toque) rejection is proposed, and the effectiveness to avoid control offsets is shown. Furthermore, the dynamic performance and the steady-state behavior of MP-DSC is evaluated and discussed.
TL;DR: A comparative analysis of different energy management schemes for a fuel-cell-based emergency power system of a more-electric aircraft and the main criteria for performance comparison are the hydrogen consumption, the state of charges of the batteries/supercapacitors, and the overall system efficiency.
Abstract: This paper presents a comparative analysis of different energy management schemes for a fuel-cell-based emergency power system of a more-electric aircraft. The fuel-cell hybrid system considered in this paper consists of fuel cells, lithium-ion batteries, and supercapacitors, along with associated dc/dc and dc/ac converters. The energy management schemes addressed are state of the art and are most commonly used energy management techniques in fuel-cell vehicle applications, and they include the following: the state machine control strategy, the rule-based fuzzy logic strategy, the classical proportional-integral control strategy, the frequency decoupling/fuzzy logic control strategy, and the equivalent consumption minimization strategy. The main criteria for performance comparison are the hydrogen consumption, the state of charges of the batteries/supercapacitors, and the overall system efficiency. Moreover, the stresses on each energy source, which impact their life cycle, are measured using a new approach based on the wavelet transform of their instantaneous power. A simulation model and an experimental test bench are developed to validate all analysis and performances.
TL;DR: In this paper, a battery model with enough precision and suitable complexity is presented, where the model equations are built and the model parameters are identified with an online parameter identification method, and an evaluation is performed on the seven battery models by an experiment approach from the aspects of the estimation accuracy of the terminal voltages.
TL;DR: A more accurate battery state of charge (SOC) estimation method for electric drive vehicles is developed based on a nonlinear battery model and an extended Kalman filter supported by experimental data.
Abstract: In this paper, a more accurate battery state of charge (SOC) estimation method for electric drive vehicles is developed based on a nonlinear battery model and an extended Kalman filter (EKF) supported by experimental data. A nonlinear battery model is constructed by separating the model into a nonlinear open circuit voltage and a two-order resistance-capacitance model. EKF is used to eliminate the measurement and process noise and remove the need of prior knowledge of initial SOC. A hardware-in-the-loop test bench was built to validate the method. The experimental results show that the proposed method can estimate the battery SOC with high accuracy.
TL;DR: An overview of the various kinds of real-time and HIL simulation for relatively slow processes, like those in basic industries or heating systems, is discussed and the required models are described.
