TL;DR: In this paper, a search of sixteen representative species has now failed to reveal any further occurrences of these rare plant pigments in the Bignoniaceae, in Arrabidaea, and the common anthocyanin, cyanidin 3-rutinoside was found, instead, in Campsis radicans, Catalpa bignonoides, Eccremocarpus scaber, Incarvillea mairei and Tecoma garrocha petals.
TL;DR: The biological activities, described in the literature, for the naphthoquinones isolated from Bignoniaceae species, chiefly from the Bignoniaaceae genra Handroanthus, Paratecoma, Tabebuia and Tecoma are presented.
Abstract: Naphthoquinones are secondary metabolites produced by algae, fungi , plants and animals and these substances show many biological activities. In the Angiospermae as naphthoquinones are found in several families with emphasis on Bignoniaceae , Ebenaceae , Plumbaginaceae , Verbenaceae , among others . The chemical profile of Bignoniaceae is characterized by the predominant occurrence of terpenoids and quinones, besides alkaloids, flavonoids, long chain non-nitrogenous derivatives and others. This paper presents the biological activities, described in the literature, for the naphthoquinones isolated from Bignoniaceae species, chiefly from the Bignoniaceae genra Handroanthus , Paratecoma , Tabebuia and Tecoma .
TL;DR: In this article, the major alkaloidal component (-)-delta-N-normethylskytanthine whose structure was proven by X-ray diffraction analysis of the N-thiourea derivative was obtained from the bark of Tecoma arequipensis.
Abstract: Bark of Tecoma arequipensis yielded the major alkaloidal component (-)-delta-N-normethylskytanthine whose structure was proven by X-ray diffraction analysis of the N-thiourea derivative. The stereochemistry of 1 at all four centers was enantiomeric with that of skytanthine previously reported from Tecoma stans and Skytanthus acutus. Gc-ms of the crude base fraction indicated the presence of several related alkaloids as very minor constituents.
