Abstract: PHILLIP BUTLER PHILLIP BUTLER was graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, and served as a Naval Aviator until his capture in North Vietnam on April 20, 1965. He was released from prison camp February 12, 1973 and returned to duty in November of that year. He earned a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1976, and is presently a Commander, USN, attached to the Human Resource Management Center, San Diego, as a consultant.

Abstract: This dictionary is a compilation of the acronyms, nicknames, brand names, technical terms and slang coined by the military during the Vietnam conflict, many of which have subsequently passed into everyday usage. The book contains nearly 5000 entries, covering commonly-used terms for weaponry; slang for fellow soldiers and the enemy; Vietnamese words picked up by the US troops; military terms, ranks and insignia; code names of major campaigns; a tap code used by American POWs; and the names of Vietnamese provinces, prison camps and supply routes.
