TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the design and use of mathematics curriculum resources by teachers and students, and define curriculum resources; in particular, they distinguish digital curriculum resources from educational technology.
Abstract: Typically, curriculum resources including textbooks are seen to reside at the interface between policy and practice (e.g., Valverde et al. 2002), as they translate policy (the intended curriculum) into practice (the enacted curriculum). More recently mathematics teachers increasingly rely on digital resources to prepare their lessons and to design their mathematics curriculum, and students use such resources in class and to complement their courses. These materials are said to become key tools for teachers; as in many countries (e.g., France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States), teachers are increasingly encouraged to (re) design the curriculum in planning their instruction. In the next section we define curriculum resources; in particular we distinguish digital curriculum resources from educational technology. In the subsequent section, we discuss the design and “use” of mathematics curriculum resources by teachers (and students). In the last section, we develop...

TL;DR: This work presents a flexible system for automatically extracting the hierarchical section titles and prose organization of web documents irrespective of differences in HTML representation, and exhibits a robust level of accuracy suitable for enhancing question answering, information extraction, and summarization.
Abstract: The text in many web documents is organized into a hierarchy of section titles and corresponding prose content, a structure which provides potentially exploitable information on discourse structure and topicality However, this organization is generally discarded during text collection, and collecting it is not straightforward: the same visual organization can be implemented in a myriad of different ways in the underlying HTML To remedy this, we present a flexible system for automatically extracting the hierarchical section titles and prose organization of web documents irrespective of differences in HTML representation This system uses features from syntax, semantics, discourse and markup to build two models which classify HTML text into section titles and prose text When tested on three different domains of web text, our domain-independent system achieves an overall precision of 082 and a recall of 098 The domain-dependent variation produces very high precision (099) at the expense of recall (075) These results exhibit a robust level of accuracy suitable for enhancing question answering, information extraction, and summarization
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the cross-disciplinary variations in the generic structure of Introduction sections of 52 Applied Linguistics and 52 Chemistry research articles drawing upon Swales' (2004) framework, taking into account the new insights proposed by Bhatia (2004), Shehzad (2008), and Lim (2012, 2014).
Abstract: This study investigated the cross-disciplinary variations in the generic structure of Introduction sections of 52 Applied Linguistics and 52 Chemistry research articles drawing upon Swales‟ (2004) framework, taking into account the new insights proposed by Bhatia (2004), Shehzad (2008), and Lim (2012, 2014). To this end, in addition to collecting quantitative data and conducting frequency and Chi-square analyses, a number of semi-structured interviews were conducted with some Chemistry scholars and Applied Linguistics (ALs) experts for triangulation purposes. The results of the quantitative data analysis indicated that the two disciplines showed significant variations in the frequency with which they used some steps and sub-steps to realize the moves. The results of the qualitative content analysis of the interviews also helped understand why authors in each discipline might use a specific move/step more than the others and why a move/step was frequently used by the authors in one discipline, but completely absent in another. Finally, based on the results, some implications were presented to postgraduate students and novice researchers in Chemistry and Applied Linguistics to help them write effective research articles in their field. The findings of the study could also provide some practical implications for the EAP teachers to help their students become better writers. In addition, some suggestions were presented to genre analysts to help them obtain more dependable results when analyzing the generic structure of various sections of research articles.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a processor that functions as a login section, an accepting section, a notifying section and a removing section. The login section performs a login process based on a predetermined account assigned to a first user. The accepting section accepts a use request of a predetermined function from the first user when the login process has been performed by the login section. The notifying section notifies a second user about the use request accepted by the accepting section. The removing section removes prohibition on execution of a process relevant to the predetermined function based on removal instruction information from the second user notified by the notifying section.
TL;DR: The authors analyzes the political claim-making of the Transylvanian Hungarian elites after 1989 and illustrates the limits of the strategy of unequal accommodation on the example of two core ethno-political goals, political autonomy, and language rights.
Abstract: This chapter analyzes the political claim-making of the Transylvanian Hungarian elites after 1989. The first part of the chapter deals with Romania’s minority policy regime and the attitudes of the majority population toward Hungarian ethno-political demands. The second section details the strategies of minority political claim-making, also providing a periodization of the post-1989 era and a discussion of two core elements of Hungary’s influence as a kin-state, namely the relationship of the minority elites with the political actors in Budapest and the issue of Hungarian citizenship. The third section illustrates the limits of the strategy of unequal accommodation (that has been central to Hungarian minority political claim-making in the past two decades) on the example of two core ethno-political goals, political autonomy, and language rights.

TL;DR: In this article, a qualitative approach to explore how Kwang-Chung Yu's personification technique could be used for language education is presented. And a comprehensive model of personification is presented based on a pragmatic analysis, which is sure to be of interest to anyone who wants to know how personification techniques are crafted.
Abstract: Many scholars consider Kwang-Chung Yu (1928–2017) a prominent practitioner of free verse. The poetic quality of his work shows considerable ingenuity, and a key feature is his use of personification to create a humorous style. Collection of Humorous Free Verses by Kwang-Chung Yu contains the most representative examples of his work. As there are no existing studies on how Yu’s personification technique could be used for language education, the present study takes a qualitative approach to explore this topic. Of the verses featured in the collection, 88% of them use personification, and 102 personified themes were found overall. The discussion consists of four parts that serve as references for language education: (1) an analysis of examples representing the six categories of personified themes, (2) eight major reflection shortcuts for personification; (3) the association and application of eight types of situations for personification; and (4) a review of an online questionnaire and its positive results. The concluding section summarises Yu’s use of personification and presents a comprehensive model of personification for language education based on a pragmatic analysis. This model is a study of a master poet and is sure to be of interest to anyone who wants to know how personification techniques are crafted.

Abstract: Cesarean section rates have been steadily increasing in Egypt from a low of 4.6% in 1992, 6.7% in 1995, 10.3 % in 2000, to about 52% in 2014. In an attempt to explain this steady rise, health professionals mostly blame mothers claiming that the leading factor is the increasing rate of Cesarean section on request. I believe the skyrocketing rates are due to a mixture of reasons related to mothers, obstetricians and the environment where they practice Obstetrics.
TL;DR: The concept of pharmacogenomics, namely that variation in drug response is (at least partly) related to genetic variation, is widely recognized and may help to better understand variability inDrug response but also to increase safety and efficacy of drug treatment by individualizing therapy.
Abstract: Now 15 years ago, in 2003, the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium proudly announced that the Human Genome Project had been completed. This endeavor raised high expectations of clinical application of genetics in the near future. In this context, three major areas are often highlighted as being the first such applications: diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases, ancestry tests for population genetics, and pharmacogenomics. For diagnosis of heritable diseases, such as growth and mental disorders, sequencing techniques are currently applied in routine settings in academic medical centers. In addition, there is growing interest in the use of biogeographical ancestry tests provided via the internet for building family trees and learning about ones origin. Also, there have been great advances in the use of pharmacogenomics in the recent years. Indeed, drug response, both with respect to efficacy and side effects shows significant interpatient variability. The concept of interindividual differences in drug response was proposed as early as 1909 by Garrod in his book The Inborn Errors of Metabolism [1]. Today, the concept of pharmacogenomics, namely that variation in drug response is (at least partly) related to genetic variation, is widely recognized. Studies have shown that response rates to major therapeutic classes of drugs range from 25–60 percent [2], and pharmacogenomic biomarkers may not only help to better understand variability in drug response but also to increase safety and efficacy of drug treatment by individualizing therapy. In the recent years, clinical guidelines for interpretation of pharmacogenomics test results have become available both in Europe and the United States [3–5] and this may fuel the clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics in routine patient care. Indeed, for example pharmacogenomics testing of variants in the DPYD gene as to individualize the dose of fluoropyrimidines used in the treatment of a variety of cancers has been implemented in some medical centers [6]. In addition, large scale pharmacogenomics implementation programs have been initiated in the US and the European Union. At least eleven implementation initiatives in the United States of America have been funded over the last 5 years [7, 8]. The PREDICT program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center aims to establish a framework and infrastructure for pre-emptive incorporation of pharmacogenomics information in the electronic health record [9]. The US Pharmacogenomics Research Network, has initiated the Translational Pharmacogenetics Program aimed at implementing pre-emptive pharmacogenomic testing in several clinical US sites in a real-world setting [10]. In addition, the 1200 Patients Project initiated by the University of Chicago is aimed at determining the feasibility and utility of incorporating pre-emptive pharmacogenomic testing of a panel of pharmacogenes and to examine the impact of providing pharmacogenomics test results on prescribing decisions and patient outcome [11]. The Displaying and Integrating Genetic Information Through the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Action Collaborative (DIGITiZe) focuses on integrating pharmacogenomic testing results of TPMT and HLA-B*5701 into the electronic health record for patients receiving prescriptions for azathioprine and abacavir [12]. The PG4KDS at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis incorporates all CPIC drug pairs into the electronic health record and clinician decision support system [13]. The Clinical Implementation of Personalized Medicine through Electronic Health Records and Genomics —Pharmacogenomics (CLIPMERGE) project at Mount Sinai Medical Center aims at enrolling patients who have previously opted-in to the institution’s biobank and to implement pharmacogenomic testing within the hospital [14]. This article discusses the changes and new features in the terminology used and the spelling, grammatical, and syntactic characteristics of acronyms introduced by the new draft chapter.
TL;DR: The results of the current study indicated that mothers who engaged in physiological delivery had higher scores regarding mother to child attachment behaviors, in other words, they are more successful to attach their babies compared to the cesarean group.
Abstract:
Objectives: Attachment can be described as a powerful bond between two individuals, in this case, between the mother and child. This process is started during pregnancy and completed after childbearing. Thus, delivery time, as a turning point between two stages of attachment is very important. Accordingly, the present study aimed to investigate the probable relations between the mother to child attachment and the mode of delivery. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 260 pregnant women were included based on specific inclusion criteria, who were in the age range of 15-45 years old and the gestational age between 37 to 42 weeks and were the candidate for physiological delivery or cesarean section. After obtaining the constant written form, the demographic information questionnaire was handed to the participants. One hour after delivery, the attachment questionnaire was completed by the researcher in the postpartum ward. Finally, the Spielberg anxiety inventory for each of the samples was completed up to one hour after delivery. Results: Based on the findings, the participants of the physiological delivery group showed more positive attachment behaviors in comparison with the other group. Further, some domains of attachment such as looking, caressing and rocking the cradle in the subtypes of emotional behaviors, as well as contiguous behaviors and caring behaviors significantly differed among the participants (P<0.05). Eventually, the participants experienced higher levels of anxiety in the cesarean delivery group, but the differences between the groups were not significant (P>0.005) Conclusions: In sum, the results of the current study indicated that mothers who engaged in physiological delivery had higher scores regarding mother to child attachment behaviors. In other words, they are more successful to attach their babies compared to the cesarean group. These results are important because various children are born by a cesarean section and an insecure attachment can have many negative effects for the child.

TL;DR: The relationship between history as a science and fiction as a genre of literature is discussed in this paper, with a brief digression on the characteristics and pitfalls of the historical novel, including its development over time.
Abstract: This essay discusses the relationship between history as a science and fiction as a genre of literature. It starts with a brief digression on the characteristics and pitfalls of the historical novel, including its development over time. Past experience is highlighted with the aid of a selection of acknowledged novelists making intensive use of historical information. Recent new trends are illustrated by professional historians becoming novelists. A final section offers reflections on how to combine the demands of authenticity in history with the demands of drama in literary fiction.
TL;DR: In carefully selected cases, trial of labour (TOL) after a prior cesarean is safe and often successful, especially in those with previous VBAC, and a prior vaginal delivery are associated with a higher rate of successful TOL.
Abstract: Background: Worldwide rise in cesarean section (CS) rate during the last three decades has been the cause of alarm and needs an in-depth study. The purpose of this study was to determine the outcome of pregnancy in women with previous one cesarean section and maternal and perinatal complications. It also aimed at identifying the factors, which can influence the outcome of trial of labour (TOL).Methods: The prospective study was conducted in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Kamla Nehru hospital for mother and child, Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, from June 2013 to May 2014 which included all women undergoing trial for vaginal birth after a previous cesarean who were more than 34 weeks, singleton viable fetus of appropriate size with cephalic presentation with inter delivery interval more than 18 months. Collected data was analysed by Student T-test and Chi-square test was used where required, for statistical analysis using Epi info 7 software. P value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: Out of 152 subjects given trial of labour, 107 (70.39%) subjects had successful VBAC and 45 (29.61%) had repeat emergency cesarean section. The maternal morbidity in emergency cesarean section group and vaginal delivered group was seen in 14 (31%), 8 (7.47%) subjects respectively. No significant perinatal morbidity was observed. VBAC rate was significantly more in women who had prior vaginal deliveries, especially in those with previous VBAC.Conclusions: In carefully selected cases, trial of labour (TOL) after a prior cesarean is safe and often successful. A prior vaginal delivery, particularly, a prior VBAC are associated with a higher rate of successful TOL.
