TL;DR: In this paper, a text input section divides an input text into sentences and attaches a number to each of the sentences, which is stored in a text data base together with the number.
Abstract: A text input section (1) divides an inputted text into sentences and attaches a number to each of the sentences, which is stored in a text data base together with the number. An important word recognizing section (2) generates a list of important words for each sentence to store it in a storing section (8). An important word weighting section (3) weights each important word. A relation degree computing section (4) computes a relation degree between an attention sentence and a precedent sentence. An important degree computing section (5) computes an importance degree of each attention sentence. A tree structure determining section (6) determines a parent sentence of the attention sentence and determines a tree structure of the inputted text. Unlike the case of determining whether or not character strings of key words are merely coincident with each other, it is possible to determine a parent sentence of each sentence based on a degree of connection between two sentences and analyze a structure of the inputted text with high accuracy according to the above construction.

TL;DR: In this paper, a composite image comprising characters, a line drawing, and a halftone image is contracted by contracting the pseudo-density region, the character/line drawing region, and the other regions separately by different methods so as to avoid moire.
Abstract: The colors used in an image inputted through an image input section are recognized, and thereby the ratio of mixed color components of an image to be outputted is determined. According to the ratio, the color components are mixed, and the input image is converted to a monochromatic image, which is then outputted. A composite image comprising characters, a line drawing, and a halftone image is contracted by contracting the pseudo-density region, the character/line drawing region, and the other regions separately by different methods so as to avoid moire, and the contracted image is outputted. A top/back image inputted through the input section is reversed by an image reversing section, the positional relationship is recognized, and the image is corrected to prevent reversal printing. Then the image is reversed again and outputted. The images on consecutive pages out of the images inputted page by page are aligned with each other by a page contour detecting section, a page content region extracting section, tilt correcting section, page position correcting section, and a page information processing section, and outputted from an image output section.

Abstract: A contents addressable memory circuit includes an inputting section, a contents addressable memory section and a control section. The inputting section divides an input data into n (n is an integer equal to or larger than 2) data blocks and supplies the n data blocks and an input address. The contents addressable memory section performs a data retrieving operation in units of data blocks to output addresses and coincidence flags corresponding to the data blocks. The coincidence flag is indicative of whether there is a data coincident with the corresponding data block. The control section outputs one of the outputted addresses based on the outputted addresses and the coincidence flags.

TL;DR: The story of the codification of English usage, not by an official academy but by a disparate band of independent entrepreneurs, constitutes the story of this chapter as discussed by the authors, which is a story of increasing knowledge about language in general and English in particular, of competition between prescriptive and descriptive ideals of grammar and lexicography in the market-place and of a shifting role for the place of speech and writing in codifying the language.
Abstract: Introduction The codification of English usage, not by an official academy but by a disparate band of independent entrepreneurs, constitutes the story of this chapter. It is a story of increasing knowledge about language in general and English in particular, of competition between prescriptive and descriptive ideals of grammar and lexicography in the market-place and of a shifting role for the place of speech and writing in codifying the language. It is also a story of the influence of piety, morality, discipline and social politics on the evaluation of English usage as the language was codified and the codifications disseminated over the last two centuries. The focus throughout is on Britain, but the interactions between Britons and Americans and the intertwined scholarship and international markets for English-language grammars and dictionaries make a tidy separation of the British and American stories impracticable. Following section 6.1, the discussion is divided into three periods. Section 6.2 concentrates on the years roughly from the mid-eighteenth century to the introduction of comparative historical linguistics into Britain around 1830, section 6.3 the period from 1830 to 1930 so as to encompass the entire scope of planning and producing the Oxford English Dictionary , and section 6.4 the span from the completion of the OED to the close of the millennium. The chronological subdivisions are somewhat arbitrary in that the patterns examined do not start or end on particular dates, but the periods serve as convenient frames for focusing on notable trends. Section 6.5 offers some conclusions and prospects. (American views of grammar and usage are reported in volume VI.)

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-forming device to consume a minimum anount of toner where a required minimum processing is limited to paste an entire image or to add a special mark to the entire image. SOLUTION: An image-processing section 152 applies a color conversion processing or the like to received image data R, G, B to covert the data into Y, M, C, K and stores the data in a memory section 154. An image recognition section 151 recognizes whether or not an input image is from a specific original, on the basis of the received image data R, G, B. A discrimination threshold setting section 153 sets discrimination threshold data S41, a data replacement section 155 replaces the image data from the memory section 154 0(h). A discrimination section 156 discriminates whether or not a copy prevention operation is sufficient based on the image data from the memory section 154, and only when the copy prevention operation is insufficient, does a data superposing section 157 apply additional copy prevention processing such as paste of the entire image or addition of a specific mark to the image data from the data replacement section 155.

TL;DR: Aristotle's logical writings were known to the early Stoics, and his ideas influenced Stoic logic.
Abstract: Abstract Were Aristotle’s logical writings known to the early Stoic logicians, and did Aristotle’s logical ideas have any influence on the development of Stoic logic? The evidence which bears on this question is perplexing: there are numerous pertinent texts which favour an affirmative answer; yet as we approach them they seem, like so many will-o’-the-wisps, to retreat-and we are stumbling in a treacherous marsh. But the question is not without its fascination, in as much as it concerns the historical relations between two magnificent monuments to Greek philosophical acumen; and it may stand some discussion. Section I presents some general ruminations. Section II deals with the preliminary question of whether the Stoics could in principle have read Aristotle. Section III assembles a sample of the evidence which suggests that the Stoics did in fact read and study their Aristotle. And the remaining sections try to assess the value of this evidence.
