Abstract: A specimen of eel genus Saurenchelys was captured at Ilan, Daxi, Taiwan in 2007, by the bottom trawl at depth 100-200 m. The specimen differed with Saurenchelys fierasfer Jordan and Snyder in the less number of median row teeth of vomer (7 in our specimen vs. 12-14 in S. fierasfer), and the mid row of vomer sit more separately on each tooth; the pterygoid teeth plate in our specimen is narrow and long, not as S. fierasfer is wide and short. Based on above morphological features, we recognized this specimen was Saurenchelys cancrivora Peters, 1864, a new record species of nettastomatid eel from Taiwanese waters.
