TL;DR: A 22-year-old woman diagnosed with pure nongestational choriocarcinoma of the ovary is presented with a review of the literature and discussion of its origin.
Abstract: Introduction
Primary ovarian choriocarcinoma arising presumably from a germ cell is extremely rare. Besides arising gestationally or nongestationally, it may be pure or mixed with other germ cell tumors like immature teratoma, dysgerminoma, polyembryoma.
TL;DR: Chromosome 12p fluorescence in situ hybridization combined with OCT4, CD30, and glypican 3 immunostains is useful in confirming the diagnosis of ovarian embryonal carcinoma.
TL;DR: It was found that AFP levels should be monitored closely for at least 1 year after induction of remission and an increase in the AFP to a positive level, even without clinical signs of recurrence, should be regarded as a recurrence.
TL;DR: It is found that OCT4 immunostaining is a useful diagnostic tool to assist in the identification of primary CNS embryonal carcinoma and germinoma in CNS mixed GCT.
TL;DR: Management of malignant germ cell tumors of the ovary requires consideration of fertility sparing surgical techniques and chemotherapy management, and the vast majority of patients will maintain their ovarian function and the ability to bear children after their recovery.
