TL;DR: In this article, A. (P.) arabica Gory, 1840, A. polita and A. argodi Kerremans, 1907 are established within subgenus Ptychomus Marseul, 1866; diagnostic characters and composition of these groups are discussed.
Abstract: Acmaeodera (Ptychomus) kubani sp. n. from Algeria, Libya and Egypt together with A. (P.) kubani saudita subsp. n. from Saudi Arabia are described, illustrated and compared with closely related species. Species-groups A. (P.) arabica Gory, 1840, A. (P.) polita (Klug, 1829) (with A. polita and A. foudrasii Solier, 1833 subgroups) and A. (P.) argodi Kerremans, 1907 are established within subgenus Ptychomus Marseul, 1866; diagnostic characters and composition of these groups are discussed.
Abstract: Acmaeodera (Acmaeodera) strumiai sp. nov. from Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Mauritania, and A. (Acmaeotethya) dhofarica sp. nov. from Oman and Yemen are described, illustrated and compared with related species.
TL;DR: An annotated taxonomic catalogue of the jewel beetles of Iran is given and it is likely that the number of jewel beetle species from Iran will be between 460-480 and possibly even more species.
Abstract: An annotated taxonomic catalogue of the jewel beetles (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) of Iran is given. Original descriptions and recent revisionary or catalogue data are included along with the distribution, both within and outside of Iran, ecological data and host plant associations, junior synonyms, and comments. A complete bibliography completes the catalogue. In total 428 species and 52 subspecies of jewel beetles belonging to 6 subfamilies (Julodinae, Polycestinae, Galbellinae, Chrysochroinae, Buprestinae, and Agrilinae), 20 tribes, and 38 genera are known from Iran including doubtful records and 4 nomina nuda. It is likely that the number of jewel beetle species from Iran will be between 460-480 and possibly even more species.
TL;DR: Faunistic information about almost a hundred different species and subspecies of Jewel Beetles (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) including the subfamilies Julodinae, Acmaeoderinaae, Polycestinaes, Chalcophorinae and B uprestinae (except the genus Anthaxia) which have been found in the Near East are provided.
Abstract: This paper provides faunistic information about almost a hundred different species and subspecies of Jewel Beetles (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) including the subfamilies Julodinae, Acmaeoderinae, Polycestinae, Chalcophorinae and Buprestinae (except the genus Anthaxia) which have been found in the Near East. It also gives a survey of the literature concerning the Jewel Beetles of this region. There are photographs of l8 species. As the author intends to continue the list, he is interested in further information and offers assistance with identifications.
TL;DR: The genus Prospheres Saunders is redescribed, and its relationships to other genera within the Polycestinae are discussed, and lectotype designations are given.
Abstract: The genus Prospheres Saunders is redescribed, and its relationships to other genera within the Polycestinae are discussed. A key is given to the genera of the Polyctesini, to which Prospheres and the closely related genus Euleptodema are transferred. A key is provided to the four species of Prospheres. Descriptions are given of each species, two of which, alternecostata and norfolkensis, are described as new. One new synonym is recognized, and lectotype designations are given, together with the data from other material examined. A few notes on the bionomics of P. aurantiopicta are given, and its probable larva described.
