Abstract: This paper presents a approach to determining the level of damage on rigid PVC pipes (polyvinyl chloride), destined for the supply of drinking water, and previously subjected to quasi-static impact. The originality of the work has been to experimentally characterize the level of damage via readily measurable physical quantities obtained under operating conditions. For this purpose, a wide range of experiments were performed. Firstly, trials involving impact with a hemispherical-end hammer weighing 16kg, dropped from a height of between 0 - 2m on portions of rigid PVC pipe. Thereafter, the dimensions of the affected area on the portions of the pipe are measured using a Tridimensional Measuring Machine (TMM). Finally, tensile tests on flat test pieces from around the impacted area of the pipe section were used to determine the post-impact residual mechanical strength. This investigation on post-impact properties allows the definition of the level of damage reached via the unified theory model of Bui Quoc. By analogy to the latter, the damage is expressed as a function of the area of the impacted section.

Abstract: In Japan, the total length of aging irrigation pipeline increases and requires a lot of repair work. As part of the repair work for an aging pipeline, pipe rehabilitation has been used. In this method, the inner pipe (rehabilitated pipe) is inserted into the outer aging pipe. Studies on the axial behavior of the rehabilitated pipe are not readily conducted although the influence of the outer aging pipe on the cross-section behavior of the inner pipe is evaluated by model tests, centrifuge tests, and FEM analyses. In this study, shaking table tests are conducted to verify the dynamic behavior along the axial direction of the inner pipe used for the method. To model inner pipes, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene (PE) pipe, which are 3040 mm in length and 140 mm in diameter, are used. To model outer pipes, different types of concrete pipes in length are used. Test results indicate that the amplitude of the bending strain of the PVC pipe with the outer pipe is large shortly after the pipe was moved horizontally due to liquefaction. In addition, the gradient of the bending strain increment to the horizontal displacement increment of the pipe end increases in proportion to the length of the outer pipe.

Abstract: The invention discloses a method for preventing a corrugated pipe from being damaged in a filled layer. The method includes the following steps that (1) a groove for burying the corrugated pipe is excavated; (2) a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe longer than the corrugated pipe is selected and inserted into the corrugated pipe, one end of the PVC pipe is connected with a bolt U-shaped pipe, the other end of the PVC pipe is sealed by tightening a bolt stopper, and a water filling level mark is engraved to the end, far from the PVC pipe, of the bolt U-shaped pipe; (3) water is injected into the PVC pipe through one end of the bolt U-shaped pipe till the water level reaches the water filling level mark; and (4) after a filler is compacted and meets the requirement, the bolt stopper is unscrewed, water in the PVC pipe is completely discharged, the PVC pipe is removed, and the construction of next corrugated pipe is performed. Abstract: The present invention relates to a molded pipe cooling device for a manufacturing system of a lead-free PVC pipe having a triple structure. According to the present invention, generation of defects in a molded pipe molded at a high temperature are reduced by: hardening a short length front end of a molded pipe which has a triple structure and is softened by being injection molded at a high temperature from an extrusion die device by primarily cooling the same under vacuum with a vacuum cooling means; and hardening the resulting molded pipe by cooling the same with a water cooling means integrally formed with the vacuum cooling means. Thus, manufacturing output and quality of the molded pipe are increased by minimizing defective parts or, in other words, a cut region in the molded pipe after being molded.
