Abstract: Publisher Summary
This chapter presents an overview of the biochemical and physical composition of tissue. Now, tissue composition may dictate the variations in tissue structure and their physical properties and their varied interaction between different organs and other tissue types. A wide survey of the composition of tissues was reported by the ICRP Task Group on Reference Man (ICRP, 1975), containing a substantial review of the then available compositional data on human tissue, together with much further developmental, physiological, and other information. Normal adult human tissues can be defined to be composed in terms of the proportions of water, lipid, protein, ash, and carbohydrate material. For many of the physical properties of tissue, the presence and proportion of water contained in the tissue and the proportion bound to the protein molecules are the primary factors determining the magnitude of the physical quantity of the tissue. Subsequently, the percentage elemental composition by mass may be calculated from knowledge of the biochemical composition of tissue together with values of the percentage elemental composition of the constituent parts of tissue.

Abstract: A system is provided for the detection and control of a paper machine profile. The system is adapted to observe a physical characteristic of a moving, continuous paper web. For example, the system can observe a change in moisture content in the web, as represented by a "wet line". In response to observations of the physical characteristic, the system can also be adapted to adjust process controls and/or the physical composition of the web in an attempt to achieve a desired profile of the physical characteristic.
