Pharmacus

Abstract: The genus Pharmacus Pictet and Saussure is redescribed, and two new genera, Setascutum n.g. and Petrotettix n.g., are erected. P. montanus Pietet and Saussure is redescribed, and nine new species, P. chapmanae n.sp., P. brewsterensis n.sp., P. dumbletoni n.sp., S. ohauensis n.sp., S. pallidum n.sp., P. serratus n.sp., P. spinosus n.sp., P. cupolaensis n.sp., and P. nigripes n.sp. are described. A possible eleventh species, Pharmacus sp. is mentioned. Keys are given for the three genera and the species of Pharmacus and Petrotettix. The distribution, ecological classification, environmental adaptations, relationships and possible origins of these species are discussed.
