About: Pelvic digit is a research topic. Over the lifetime, 31 publications have been published within this topic receiving 271 citations. The topic is also known as: pelvic finger & pelvic rib.
TL;DR: Four additional cases of the developmental anomaly known variously as pelvic "ribs" or "digits" are presented with CT correlation in three cases, and their differential diagnosis is discussed.
TL;DR: The radiological features of seven cases of pelvic digit discovered incidentally on plain radiographs are described and differentiation from other causes of new bone formation is discussed.
Abstract: The radiological features of seven cases of pelvic digit discovered incidentally on plain radiographs are described and differentiation from other causes of new bone formation is discussed. Its recognition as a benign anomaly is important to avoid unnecessary investigation or intervention. An embryological theory of development of pelvic digit is proposed.
TL;DR: A case of a pelvic digit with CT correlation is presented and the literature is reviewed.
Abstract: Radiography of the pelvis may incidentally reveal a rare congenital anomaly called "pelvic digit" and it is important to be aware of its existence in order to differentiate it from acquired abnormalities due to trauma. A case of a pelvic digit with CT correlation is presented and the literature is reviewed.
TL;DR: Five new cases of a rare congenital anomaly known as the ”pelvic digit”, were each discovered incidentally on a radiographic examination of the pelvis, using tomograms in some cases to show the most important and typical radiographic signs of this anomaly.
Abstract: Five new cases of a rare congenital anomaly known as the ”pelvic digit”, were each discovered incidentally on a radiographic examination of the pelvis. The features are described, using tomograms in some cases to show the most important and typical radiographic signs of this anomaly. We review the cases previously reported in the literature and discuss the features in the differential diagnosis between the pelvic digit, myositis ossificans, avulsion injury of the pelvis and the pelvic rib.
TL;DR: It is important to recognize and distinguish a pelvic digit from post-traumatic ossification and avulsion to avoid unnecessary additional investigations.
Abstract: Introduction
Pelvic digit is a rare congenital anomaly where bone develops in the soft tissue adjacent to normal skeletal bone. The condition is benign and is usually discovered accidentally. On a plain radiography, pelvic digit typically appears as a rib- or phalanx-like bone structure with a clear cortex and medulla related to the pelvis, often with a pseudoarticulation at its base.
