Abstract: During two trips to investigate the, Passalidae (Coleoptera)fauna of) Maraca Island, on the. Uraricoera riven., Roraima, Brazil, five species were faund. During the first trip, which took place, in the rainy season (May 3-13, 1987), faun. species were faund: Passalus glaberrimusEschsch., 1819; Passalus Interruptus(Lin., 1758); Passalus interstitialisEschsch., 1819 and Verres furcilabris[Eschsch., 1819). Paxillussp., as well as the. faur, species, were. faund on the second trip, during the dry season (november 23 - 30, 1987). Bionomical data collected on these species are presented and discussed.

Abstract: Two new species of macropterous Pertinax are described from the Pacific slope of the Andes of Colombia (Choco, Valle del Cauca and Narino) and Northern Ecuador (Pichincha): P matilei sp. n. and P. loici sp. n, respectively. Both species are inhabiting the mountain wet forest and are very probably endemics from their restricted biogeographical areas. Some external characters of the species are remarkable. P. matilei sp. n has a very large size, which is one of the most important within the South American fauna of Passalini, and may be compared in the matter with the great Passalus interruptus (L.). P. loici sp. n has the hind wings normally developed and the elytra not fused but quite a brachypterous habitus: on the head, the supra-orbital ridges are strongly elevated, the eyes are a few reduced and the central tubercle is of great size with the apical portion totally free.
