TL;DR: The results confirm the psychoanalytic hypothesis of a relationship between orality and smoking and heavy smokers were found to score significantly higher on "oral craving" and to exhibit more defensiveness in a situation involving hostility toward the mother.
Abstract: A group of male college students was compared on six orality factors of the Blacky Pictures. Heavy smokers were found to score significantly higher on “oral craving” and to exhibit more defensiveness in a situation involving hostility toward the mother, as compared with nonsmokers. The results confirm the psychoanalytic hypothesis of a relationship between orality and smoking.
