Abstract: A space vector concept for deriving the switching times for pulsewidth-modulated voltage source inverters is compared with the conventional sinusoidal concept. The switching times are deducted from assumptions for minimum current distortion, the resulting mean voltage values are shown, and the differences between these and the established sinusoidal PWM (pulse-width modulator) are elaborated. Based on an analytical calculation the current distortions and torque ripples are evaluated and compared with the values obtained with the conventional method. The space vector representation results in lower current harmonics and possibly a higher modulation index. A modulator based on an 8086 microprocessor has been implemented, and its performance is reported. >

Abstract: This paper explores control methods for the Z-source inverter and their relationships of voltage boost versus modulation index. A maximum boost control is presented to produce the maximum voltage boost (or voltage gain) under a given modulation index. The control method, relationships of voltage gain versus modulation index, and voltage stress versus voltage gain are analyzed in detail and verified by simulation and experiment.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed two constant boost control methods for the Z-source inverter, which can obtain maximum voltage gain at any given modulation index without producing any low-frequency ripple that is related to the output frequency and minimize the voltage stress at the same time.
Abstract: This paper proposes two constant boost-control methods for the Z-source inverter, which can obtain maximum voltage gain at any given modulation index without producing any low-frequency ripple that is related to the output frequency and minimize the voltage stress at the same time. Thus, the Z-network requirement will be independent of the output frequency and determined only by the switching frequency. The relationship of voltage gain to modulation index is analyzed in detail and verified by simulation and experiments.
TL;DR: Comparisons are made with minimum shift keying (MSK) and systems have been found which are significantly better in E_{b}/N_{0} for a large signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) without expanded bandwidth, and schemes with the same bit error probability as MSK but with considerably smaller bandwidth have also been found.
Abstract: The continuous phase modulation (CPM) signaling scheme has gained interest in recent years because of its attractive spectral properties. Data symbol pulse shaping has previously been studied with regard to spectra, for binary data and modulation index 0.5. In this paper these results have been extended to the M -ary case, where the pulse shaping is over a one symbol interval, the so-called full response systems. Results are given for modulation indexes of practical interest, concerning both performance and spectrum. Comparisons are made with minimum shift keying (MSK) and systems have been found which are significantly better in E_{b}/N_{0} for a large signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) without expanded bandwidth. Schemes with the same bit error probability as MSK but with considerably smaller bandwidth have also been found. Significant improvement in both power and bandwidth are obtained by increasing the number of levels M from 2 to 4.
