Abstract: A mini blind actuator has a motor and a housing (30) that holds the motor (60) and a dc battery (40). The rotor of the motor is coupled to the baton (22) of the mini-blind for rotating the baton and thereby opening or closing the slats of the mini-blind. Alternatively, the rotor is coupled to the tilt rod of the blind to rotate the tilt rod and thereby open or close the slats of the mini-blind. A control signal generator (52) generates a control signal for completing the electrical circuit between the battery and the motor. The control signal can be generated in response to a predetermined amount of daylight or in response to a user generated remote command signal.
TL;DR: In this article, a mini blind cutter is attached to a slide bar which is slidably mounted in the framework and the slide bar includes a rack engaged with a pinion gear that is rotated by a ratchet handle.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cutter for cutting the ends from a mini blind so that the mini blind may be custom sized for a particular window opening. The mini blind cutter includes a framework which has a receiving area for receiving an end of the mini blind. A cutter blade is attached to a slide bar which is slidably mounted in the framework. The slide bar includes a rack engaged with a pinion gear that is rotated by a ratchet handle. Movement of the ratchet handle thus slides the slide bar along the framework and forces the cutter blade through the end of the mini blind.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sizing a slat window blind to an exact width at the point of purchasing using the level of operator skill typically found in retail outlet. The invention is particularly adapted for use in connection with a type of blind in which a number of individual, horizontally disposed slats are spaced vertically apart from one another along flexible lines, often referred to as ladder cords, and which have a flat or slightly curved cross-sectional configuration. Often such slats are approximately one inch in width and frequently the term "mini blind" has been applied to this type of article.
TL;DR: In this paper, a cutting apparatus for blinds of the type having a head rail, a bottom rail, and a plurality of slats includes a frame defined by a base and a pair of opposed end walls with a blind receiving and severing area near one of the end walls.
Abstract: A cutting apparatus for blinds of the type having a head rail, a bottom rail, and a plurality of slats includes a frame defined by a base and a pair of opposed end walls with a blind receiving and severing area near one of the end walls. A drive screw supported by the end walls extends through a carriage slidable on the base for linear movement between the end walls, whereby the carriage can be driven along the length of the base by rotation of the drive screw. A knife on the carriage severs an end of a blind as the carriage advances through the blind receiving and severing area. A mandrel is removably mounted on an end wall in the blind receiving and severing area for receiving and supporting a head rail of the blind for inhibiting movement and /or distortion of the blind during cutting. A clamping block releasably clamps a blind in the frame.
TL;DR: In this paper, a mini-blind which is width adjustable by the ultimate consumer at the moment of installation without the use of hand tools is disclosed, including slats having lines of weakness spaced at convenient intervals which enable each slat to be shortened by snapping off the desired increments by hand applied pressure.
