Abstract: In 1999 Mibora minima was found on one of the Friesian Isles: its most northern locality thusfar, in a therophyte-rich pioneer grassland, on calcareous sand. In Bretagne and Normandy, M. minima is regularly found in more or less similar grasslands. In Central Europe, however, M. minima is confined to sites strongly influenced by men, on siliceous sand.
TL;DR: It is concluded that populations of Mibora minima from sand-dune in the northwest Iberian Peninsula, should be considered as a distinct subspecies (subsp. Iittorea), distinguished from the subspecies minima by, inter alia, its long imbricate spikelets.
Abstract: We conclude that populations of Mibora minima from sand-dune in the northwest Iberian Peninsula, should be considered as a distinct subspecies (subsp. Iittorea), distinguished from the subspecies minima by, inter alia, its long imbricate spikelets. Anatomical, cytological, biogeographical and ecological characteristics of the new taxon are presented.
TL;DR: Two new localities of Mibora minima (L.) Desv.
This paper reports on two new localities of Mibora minima (L.) Desv. (Early sand-grass) in the military area at ‘De Hors’, Texel. Releves have been used to describe the vegetation composition of these two sites. The vegetation of the first site is characterised by mosses and is assigned to the Phleo-Tortuletum brachythecietosum. The population of M. minima is estimated over 10.000 specimens there. The vegetation of the second site is assigned to the Elymo-Ammophiletum festucetosum arenariae, the characteristic plant community of the inland side of the white dunes along the shore line.
