TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a wireless communication system for digital audio players that provides for increased functionality, such as communication, interaction and synchronization between a computing platform and various mobile, portable or fixed DAs, as well as providing a communication link between the DAs themselves.
Abstract: A wireless communication system and in particular to a wireless communication system for digital audio players that provides for increased functionality, such as communication, interaction and synchronization between a computing platform and various mobile, portable or fixed digital audio players, as well as providing a communication link between the various digital audio players themselves. The computing platform may act, for example, through a wireless network or wireless communication platform, to control the digital audio players; to act as a cache of digital audio data for the digital audio players; as well as provide a gateway to the Internet to enable the digital audio players to access additional digital audio content and other information. The computing platform may also be used to automatically update digital audio content on the digital audio players; synchronize digital audio content and playlists between digital audio players; and automatically continue a particular playlist as the user moves from one digital audio player to another.
TL;DR: In this paper, an adaptive menu structure for media files is presented. But it is not shown on a display associated with a media player as a function of a media type associated with the media player.
Abstract: Creating and displaying an adaptive menu structure for media files. The invention includes authoring software to create the menu structure to enable a user to navigate the media files using a media player. The invention also includes filtering software to adapt the created menu structure to display menu information on a display associated with the media player as a function of a media type associated with the media player. In one embodiment, the invention is operable as part of a compressed media format having a set of small files containing metadata, menus, and playlists in a compiled binary format designed for playback on feature-rich personal computer media players as well as low cost media players.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a synchronized media experience where a media server identifies a group of two or more remote media entertainment systems through which user-controlled play of media content may be presented.
Abstract: A synchronized media experience is described. A media server identifies a group of two or more remote media entertainment systems through which user-controlled play of media content may be presented. The server generates and transmits one or more synchronization commands to the remote media entertainment systems to synchronize presentation of a particular media content through the two or more remote media entertainment systems. A control command entered by a user of one of the remote media entertainment systems may be communicated to each of the two or more remote media entertainment systems to enable synchronized, user controlled presentation of the particular media content.
TL;DR: In this paper, methods, systems, and computer program products are described for creating an audio menu describing media content of a media player, including metadata describing the media files managed by the media player and converting at least a portion of the metadata to speech.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for creating an audio menu describing media content of a media player. Embodiments include retrieving metadata describing the media files managed by the media player; converting at least a portion of the metadata to speech; creating one or more media files for the audio menu; and saving the speech in the audio portion of the one or more the media files for the audio menu.
TL;DR: In this paper, a portable multimedia player is used to wirelessly access and control a media server that is streaming digital media by way of a wireless interface to a media unit such as a stereo/speakers in the case of streaming digital audio.
Abstract: A portable multimedia player (102) is used to wirelessly access and control a media server (104) that is streaming digital media by way of a wireless interface (116) to a media unit (106) such as a stereo/speakers in the case of streaming digital audio. In one embodiment, the portable multimedia player is wirelessly synchronized to a selected one(s) of a number of digital media files (109) stored on the media server in such a way that digital media file metadata (song title, author, etc.) associated with the selected digital media file(s) only is transferred from the media server to be stored in the portable media player.
