TL;DR: For example, this paper pointed out that given the fervor bought about by the malaise felt towards transnational corporate capitalism it is no surprise to find that Klein is being branded in her own right as the 'pin-up revolutionary' (according to the Irish Times) of the antiglobalization movement.
Abstract: Much of the attention directed at Naomi Klein's No Logo has focussed on the fluently constructed analysis of forces that oppose global transnational corporate capitalism. This should not be surprising given the recent acceleration of anti-corporate activism that so vividly entered the public domain at the end of the last century at the antiglobalization coming out party in Seattle opposing the World Trade Organization. Indeed, given the fervor bought about by the malaise felt towards transnational corporate capitalism it is no surprise to find that Klein is being branded in her own right—as the 'pin-up revolutionary' (according to the Irish Times) of the antiglobalization movement. This gives Klein as ubiquitous a presence as the very brands which are the target of the central thesis of Wo Logo. Such a presence is no doubt a horrific thought for Klein who uses over half of the rather voluminous 490 pages to join the dots of the disparate, yet increasingly, coherent anti-corporate movements (a coherence that can only be aided by works such as No Logo).
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the rise of city branding and the reasons of its popularity and, after a short review of the basic elements of corporate branding, identify essential similarities between these two forms of branding.
Abstract: A city's brand is increasingly considered an important asset for urban development and an effective tool for cities to distinguish themselves and improve their positioning. The introduction of corporate-level marketing concepts and, especially, corporate branding has significantly contributed towards the development of a city branding theory. In practice, however, there is an evident confusion of a wide branding strategy with one of its components, namely the design of a new logo and slogan or, at best, the development of a promotional campaign. This paper first describes the rise of city branding and the reasons of its popularity and, after a short review of the basic elements of corporate branding, it goes on to identify essential similarities between these two forms of branding. It finally detects the need to adapt any branding tools to the needs of cities and addresses the necessity of a comprehensive city brand management framework.
TL;DR: The findings show that the religious belief, exposure, certification logo, and health reason are potential sources of Muslim awareness about halal consumption, but health reason is the most contributing predictor of level of halal awareness.
TL;DR: A method for encoding and indexing the relative spatial layout of local features detected in the logo images can derive a quantized representation of the regions in the logos and minimize the false positive detections.
Abstract: In this paper we propose a highly effective and scalable framework for recognizing logos in images. At the core of our approach lays a method for encoding and indexing the relative spatial layout of local features detected in the logo images. Based on the analysis of the local features and the composition of basic spatial structures, such as edges and triangles, we can derive a quantized representation of the regions in the logos and minimize the false positive detections. Furthermore, we propose a cascaded index for scalable multi-class recognition of logos. For the evaluation of our system, we have constructed and released a logo recognition benchmark which consists of manually labeled logo images, complemented with non-logo images, all posted on Flickr. The dataset consists of a training, validation, and test set with 32 logo-classes. We thoroughly evaluate our system with this benchmark and show that our approach effectively recognizes different logo classes with high precision.
