Abstract: A LWD tool is disclosed for providing an image of the borehole during drilling or during removal of the tool from the borehole. The tool includes imaging transducers which are fired based upon either time or direction. Borehole reflections are processed to determine time-of-flight to give an indication of standoff with respect to each transducer from which the borehole geometry can be obtained. The reflections also are analyzed for other information, such as the amplitude of the reflected signal. The time-of-flight and amplitude values are encoded and stored in memory for retrieval later. In addition to the imaging transducers, the imaging assembly also includes depth transducers to obtain a micro measurement of depth downhole. The micro-depth measurements are stored and/or transmitted to the surface. In addition, a directional sensor and clock are provided downhole to correlate the firing of the transducers and the receipt of reflections. The micro-depth measurements and directional measurements preferably are used with one more image signals to check for the presence of bed boundaries intersecting the borehole. If a boundary is present, the imaging assembly applies a best fit sine wave to the image signal, from which dip angle α and dip direction are obtained. In the preferred embodiment, acoustic transducers are used as the imaging transducers, although electromagnetic transducers or other suitable transducers may be used.
TL;DR: An assembly and methods for constructing a monowell includes a monodiameter casing disposed in a monobore wellbore having diametric efficiency with a monore production delivery system disposed within the monod diameter casing as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: An assembly and methods for constructing a MONOWELL includes a monodiameter casing disposed in a monodiameter wellbore having diametric efficiency with a monobore production delivery system disposed within the monodiameter casing. An assembly for constructing a monodiameter wellbore includes a bottomhole assembly having a overgauge hole drilling member, a directional steering assembly, a measurement while drilling tool, and a logging while drilling tool; a work string attached to the bottomhole assembly and extending to the surface; drilling fluids flowing through the work string and bottomhole assembly; chemical casing casing the borehole; expandable casing disposed in the wellbore; and a sealing composition disposed between the expandable casing and the wellbore.
TL;DR: In this paper, a suite of logging-while-drilling (LWD) data within gas-hydrate-bearing sand reservoirs in order to make accurate estimates of the concentration of gas hydrates under various geologic conditions and to understand the geologic controls on the occurrence of gas hydrate at each of the sites drilled during this expedition.
TL;DR: A logging-while-drilling (LDR) method as mentioned in this paper uses a plurality of rib sets with pad-mounted sensors on one or more selectively non-rotating sleeves attached to a rotating housing that is part of a drilling assembly.
Abstract: A logging-while-Drilling method and apparatus for obtaining information about a formation uses a plurality of rib sets with pad-mounted sensor on one or more selectively non-rotating sleeves attached to a rotating housing that is part of a drilling assembly. The sensors may be density, neutron, NMR, resistivity, sonic, dielectric or any number of other sensors. In an alternative arrangement, the sensors rotate with the drill string.
TL;DR: In this paper, a core barrel with an inner tube for coring and, alternately, a center plug assembly for closing the throat of the core bit at the bottom of the assembly for drilling in lieu of coring is described.
Abstract: A core barrel having an inner tube for coring and, alternately, a center plug assembly for closing the throat of the core bit at the bottom of the assembly for drilling in lieu of coring. The inner tube assembly and plug assembly are disposable and retrievable through the drill string on a wireline using an overshot. The core bit is of a stabilized, preferably anti-whirl, design and may be a low-invasion core bit used in cooperation with a low-invasion coring shoe. A logging tool and data transmission assembly may be incorporated in the plug assembly for logging while drilling.
