Abstract: Summary In the course of the current studies on the cytotaxonomy of the genus Iris L. Subgenus Iris Section Iris (MATHEW 1981), we have extended our investigations to include the SEM of pollen exine morphology in the effort to obtain further taxonomic markers to clarify several problems of determination in some bearded groups mainly of Italian provenance. This preliminary study describes the micromorphology of the pollen in nine bearded Irises followed by a discussion and a synthesis of the related evolution hypothesis examined under different points of view.
