TL;DR: This paper analyzes the total computer system security problem, using six major factors to sort out the issues involved, and visualizes the entire problem.
Abstract: As society becomes more dependent on computers, computer crime is becoming not only more disastrous in its potential impact, but also more attractive to the criminal.1-3However, with adequate protection techniques, data theft can be prevented. This paper analyzes the total computer system security problem, using six major factors to sort out the issues involved. The entire problem is visualized in Figure 1, with the six factors listed along the left-hand side.

TL;DR: It is concluded that relational data systems minimize the impact of the DBMS security requirements on the functional capabilities of a DBMS, which are found to increase the costs of coordinated data sharing, and to present difficult problems in multilevel data entry.
Abstract: : Consideration is given to several problems encountered in the design of a secure, multilevel Data Base Management System (DBMS). The DBMS will operate within the environment of a certified, secure operating system which will implement and enforce the Department of Defense Information Security Program for protection of classified information. A set of DBMS security requirements is used as basis for design considerations, and the economic and functional impact of these requirements is assessed. Areas of consideration include: data organization and structure, operations on structured data, coordinated data sharing and data entry. On the basis of these considerations, it is concluded that relational data systems minimize the impact of the DBMS security requirements on the functional capabilities of a DBMS. These same requirements are found, however, to increase the costs of coordinated data sharing, and to present difficult problems in multilevel data entry.
