Abstract: The technical aspects of videoconferencing are described, with emphasis on the H 320 standards for the transmission of compressed video and audio streams. The implications of multilingual videoconferencing for sound and image quality in conference interpreting and the related cognitive, medical and psychological problems are then discussed. The suitability of this technique for various kinds of meetings and its cost effectiveness are also touched upon.
TL;DR: In this article, the problem of interfacing video conference traffic between ISDN (Integrated Service Digital Network) and the internet is studied, and some preliminary experimental resuits in dealing with these issues are presented.
Abstract: Although 11.320 is one of the most popular ITU-T standard for video conference systems, 11.323 is receiving wideacceptance in the internet society. In this paper, we study the problem of transporting video conference traffic toand from the internet. Some characteristics of the problem are as follows. For example, H.323 video stream is VBRwhile 11.320 video stream is CBR; 11.323 is byte-oriented while H.320 is bit-oriented; audio and video packets aretransmitted independently in H.323 while they are multiplexed together in 11.320; the probability of packet loss in a H.323 network is much higher than in a 11.320 ISDN circuit switching network. In this paper, we present our designs and some preliminary experimental resuitsin dealing with these issues. Keywords: Video Conference, H.320, 11.323, ITTJ-T, transport control1. INTRODUCTION In this paper, we study the problem of interfacing video conference traffic between ISDN (Integrated Service Digital Network) and the internet. Several video conference systems has be presented in the past.'4 These systems
