Abstract: Characteristics of external anatomy, osteology, hemipenis, and tongue are compared between the genera Pseudoficimia, Gyalopion, and Ficimia. The phylogenetic relationships between these genera and an important specimen, possibly intermediate between Ficimia and Gyalopion, are discussed. The possible relationships of Conopsis and Toluca to the above genera are considered. Speculations of the evolution of the species of each genus are presented.
TL;DR: A new species, Ficimia hardyi, is described from northern Hidalgo, Mexico, in the upper headwaters of the Rio Panuco at elevations of 1480-2100 m, although superficially similar to F. variegata, its closest relative is F. publia.
Abstract: A new species, Ficimia hardyi, is described from northern Hidalgo, Mexico, in the upper headwaters of the Rio Panuco at elevations of 1480-2100 m. Although superficially similar to F. variegata, its closest relative is F. publia, the most widely distributed and variable species of the genus, occurring in the lowlands of the same drainage system as the new species
