Abstract: It is an investigation on the taxonomic history and ecological studies of the “dwarf cactus from Holguin", Escobaria cubensis (Britton & Rose) Hunt, 1978 from 1909 until 1990; there are important elements for the conservation also a contribution to the knowledge of the history of natural patrimony of Holguin, with historical data about the visit of world personalities and Holguin as well. 41 materials corresponding to notes of trips, letters and publications were studied. It is possible that the first collector J.A Shafer visited two distribution areas. The contributions of ecology knowledge until 1990 were based on the observation and description.

Abstract: It is the second part of an investigation on the history of the studies of the ecology and habitat conservation of the “dwarf cactus from Holguin", Escobaria cubensis (Britton & Rose) Hunt, from 1990 until today. There were studied 34 materials, and experts were also consulted. The investigations on the natural history of this specie have contributed to its conservation, which has demonstrated the need of multidisciplinary teams.
