TL;DR: A monograph of the genus MeseChites (Apocynoideae, Mesechiteae) is presented and a neotype (Echites mapirensis H. Winkl.) is proposed.
Abstract: A monograph of the genus Mesechites (Apocynoideae, Mesechiteae) is presented. Eight species are recognized (Mesechites acuminatus (Ruiz & Pav.) Mull. Arg., Mesechites angustifolius (Poir.) Miers, Mesechites citrifolius (Kunth) Woodson, Mesechites mansoanus (A. DC.) Woodson, Mesechites minimus (Britton) Woodson, Mesechites repens (Jacq.) Miers, Mesechites roseus (A. DC.) Miers, Mesechites trifidus (Jacq.) Mull. Arg.). In addition, four new synonyms (Echites mapirensis H. Winkl., Mesechites bicorniculatus (Rusby) Woodson, Mesechites pilosissimus Woodson, and Mesechites sanctaecrucis (S. Moore) Woodson), six new lectotypifications (Echites brevipes Benth., Echites tubulosus Benth., Echites breviflorus Urb., Echites repens Jacq., Echites myrtifolins Roem. & Schult., Echites sulphureus Vell.), and a neotype (Echites mapirensis H. Winkl.) are proposed. Keys for sections and species, as well as descriptions, illustrations, distributional data and specimens are provided for all the taxa.
TL;DR: This synopsis provides a key, synonymies, descriptions, habitat descriptions, specimens examined, illustrations, maps, and conservation assessment for the four species of Asketanthera Woodson currently recognized.
Abstract: Morales, J.F. (2018). Studies in the Neotropical Apocynaceae LIV: a synopsis of Asketanthera. Candollea 73: 7–16. In English, English abstract. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15553/c2018v731a2 This synopsis provides a key, synonymies, descriptions, habitat descriptions, specimens examined, illustrations, maps, and conservation assessment for the four species of Asketanthera Woodson currently recognized. Lectotypes are selected for Asketanthera longiflora Woodson, Asketanthera obtusifolia A.H. Liogier, Echites calycosus A. Rich., Echites picardae Urb. and Echites rugelianus Urb. A neotype is also designated for Echites dolichopetalus Urb. Asketanthera obtusifolia A.H. Liogier is reduced to the synonymy of Pentalinon luteum (L.) B.F. Hansen & Wunderlin. TL;DR: The presence in Honduras of Allomarkgrafia plumeriiflora, Anechites nerium, Macropharynx renteriae, Stemmadenia eubracteata and Thenardia chiapensis is reported here for the first time.
Abstract: A treatment of the subfamilies Apocynoideae and Rauvol - fioideae (Apocynaceae) in Honduras, is presented. A total of 55 species in 30 genera ( Allamanda, Allomarkgrafia, Anechites, Aspidosperma, Beaumontia, Carissa, Cascabela, Catharanthus, Echites, Fernaldia, Forsteronia, Lacmellea, Macropharynx, Malouetia, Mandevilla, Mesechites, Nerium, Odontadenia, Pentalinon, Plumeria, Prestonia, Rauvolfia, Rhabdadenia, Stemmadenia, Tabernaemontana, Thenardia, Thevetia, Tintinnabularia, Tonduzia, Vallesia ) are treated. Echites, Mandevilla, Prestonia , and Tabernaemontana are the most representative genera. Descriptions, keys, data on ecology, distribution, phenology, common names as well as lists of specimens examined are provided. Photographs are provided for the majority of species. The presence in Honduras of Allomarkgrafia plumeriiflora, Anechites nerium, Macropharynx renteriae, Stemmadenia eubracteata and Thenardia chiapensis is reported here for the first time.
TL;DR: The published images in Mark Catesby's Natural History are compared with the original watercolors now preserved in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, England, allowing for a more exact evaluation of the 174 plants illustrated by Catesbys, resulting in determination of all plant species but one.
Abstract: The published images in Mark Catesby's Natural History are compared with the original watercolors now preserved in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, England This comparison has allowed for a more exact evaluation of the 174 plants illustrated by Catesby, resulting in determination of all plant species but one The typification of most plant names is given in detail, with full bibliographic citations Most non-plant organisms associated with the plant images are also identified and their nomenclatural status discussed Catesby plates are newly designated here as lectotypes or neotypes for the following plant names: Cassine paragua Mill, Dracontium foetidum L, Echites umbellatus Jacq, Ficus citrifolia Mill, Fraxinus caroliniana Mill, Gleditsia aquatica Marshall, Hibiscus tiliaceus L, Ilex caroliniana Mill, Ipomoea catesbaei GFW Mey, Laurus sassafras L, L winterana L, Magnolia virginiana L var foetida L, Malva abutiloides L, Menispermum carolinum L, Passiflora cuprea L, Plata
