Abstract: The thesis explores the importance of connotation within English as a lingua franca (ELF) and the implications for teaching ELF. The importance of such research is that should connotative meaning be shown to be of crucial importance, this must be taken into account in the development of a methodology for ELF. This is particularly important as tiie understanding of ELF is only now emerging, together with a related pedagogy. As a starting point the thesis explores the views of high school teachers and university lecturers in Thailand aâ an example of a country where ELF is an important issue for pedagogy. The focus is on issues related to the teaching and use of ELF, including linguistic imperialism. The literature on intercultural communication is then discussed with particular reference to English as a lingua franca. From this discussion a hypothesis is developed for testing, that "successful intercultural communication using ELF cannot take place without a substantial similarity in connotative meaning between interlocutors in relation to key words and phrases used in discourse”. Given that there has been no previous attempt to explore connotative meaning within ELF, one of the contributions of this thesis is the development of the research instruments designed to test the hypothesis. Research instruments used were questionnaires; recorded interviews based on the responses to the questionnaires; video-recorded dialogues between informants; separate tape- recorded "stop-start" interviews of informants whilst viewing the video recordings of the dialogues; semantic differential testing of key words and phrases selected from the dialogues; and word association testing of such key words and phrases. The thesis explains the rationale behind such instruments and their application in a research pilot with subsequent refinements for the main study. The analysis showed that overall, 81% of the communication events that were able to be categorized provided some form of support for the hypothesis, compared to 19% of such events providing evidence tending to contradict the hypothesis. The conclusion reached was therefore that connotative meaning was indeed, extremely significant in successful communication in ELF and the implications of this finding for theory, research methodology and practice are considered.
TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper calculated the comprehensive gray relationship degree between each factor and students' labor re-education level, and analyzed the variables; the new connotation of education, the construction of labor education evaluation index system, and the constructionof labor education support system were studied.
Abstract: Labor education is a complex concept whose value is not only the sum of labor + education. It plays an extremely important role in the growth education of students. Its fundamental purpose is to cultivate students' good technical literacy, improve their practical skills, and form innovative thinking. The monitoring data show that the path of labor education in schools is good, but there are also problems such as unbalanced development of labor practice, insufficient leading role of schools, insufficient basic role of families, and serious lack of social support. Responsibility index, learning motivation, motor health, and self-awareness are significantly and positively correlated with labor practice index. Based on the gray relationship theory, this paper selected relevant data of Chinese students, calculated the comprehensive gray relationship degree between each factor and students' labor reeducation level, and analyzed the variables; the new connotation of education, the construction of labor education evaluation index system, and the construction of labor education support system were studied.
TL;DR: In this paper , an in-depth analysis of the relationship, the influencing mechanisms, and the key influencing factors between natural resources and regional economic development will help to clarify the change in and the development of China's resource-based regions.
Abstract: In China, after experiencing high resource dependence (RD) and extensive development, some regions that once had abundant resource reserves have fallen into a state of long-term economic stagnation. Therefore, an in-depth analysis of the relationship, the influencing mechanisms, and the key influencing factors between natural resources and regional economic development will help to clarify the change in and the development of China’s resource-based regions. This study takes 19 resource-based provinces in China as the research object, and it builds an analysis model that includes the regional economic growth, the RD, the institutional quality (IQ), the technological innovation (TI), and other variables, on the basis of panel data from 2000 to 2019. China’s actual research conclusions. First, there is a substantial negative correlation between RD and economic development; that is, at the current stage of economic development in the sample provinces, the resource-curse (RC) phenomenon exists, and RD has become an obstacle to economic growth. Moreover, through further research, we find that institutional relationships between quality and economic growth are not apparent, but there is a significant positive correlation between the interaction term of the IQ and RD and economic growth. Finally, TI plays an important intermediary function in the relation between RD and economic growth; high-quality TI can significantly reduce the adverse impact of RD on economic growth. The conclusions of this study help enrich the connotation of the “resource curse” theory in terms of emerging economies, and the policy implications have guiding significance for China’s ongoing “regional economic transformation and sustainable development.”
TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors put forward the extraction method of tourism sustainable development path under the background of artificial intelligence smart city construction, based on the conceptual model of influencing factors of smart city sustainable development, analyzes the connotation of latent variables.
Abstract: To strengthen urban tourism sustainable development, this paper puts forward the extraction method of tourism sustainable development path under the background of artificial intelligence [Formula: see text] smart city construction. Based on the conceptual model of influencing factors of smart city sustainable development, this paper analyzes the connotation of latent variables. And we are designing a structural analysis model to analyze the current situation of urban tourism sustainable development, analyzing the total effect of parameter factors, formulating the path of smart city tourism sustainable development corresponding to the parameters, and taking Anhui Province as an example. To guide the construction and perfection of the industrial chain of the smart city’s sustainable development of industrial tourism, this paper constructs the system model of smart city, analyses the sustainable development model of Anhui smart city, and designs the extraction method of the sustainable development path of intelligent city tourism.
