Abstract: The use of the concept of paternalism by the social sciences poses two epistemological problems. First, it is a polemical term: its connotation is generally negative. One does not like to have one's action being called paternalistic and would rather have it qualified as, for instance, benevolent or humanitarian. Conversely, describing someone else's action as paternalistic implies a pejorative undertone and indicates a sort of disapproval. Like populism or fascism, paternalism is not a word that social scientists can use as if it were neutral. Second, it is an equivocal notion: its definition depends on the user. Political theorists regard it as a doctrine implying an interference with individuals against their will but for their own good. Common sense views it as an attitude of protection having to do with a fatherly behavior but not necessarily with an imposition or prohibition. Social scientists have therefore to decide whether to adopt Durkheim's nominalism, and start with a definition, or Weber's comprehension, and rely on people's understanding. To claim that we should address these two issues before any discussion on paternalism means on the one hand that we should be aware of the values attached to the word and on the other hand that we have to choose between two approaches which are both legitimate and analytically orthogonal. This awareness and this choice have important consequences for our approach to paternalism. Let us consider first the polemical dimension. As reminded by Gerard Noiriel, the term “paternalisme” was initially used in the nineteenth century by the French labor movement to criticize the way employers reproduced traditional forms of domination typical of the rural world in their relationship with their workers; by contrast, those defending this mode of production pointed to the sociologist Frederic Le Play who pleaded in favor of a voluntary relationship of interest and affection between the employer and his workers, which he named “patronage.” Rather than dismissing it, we can consequently turn the polemical connotation into a political meaning. Taking the debates about the term and their implications seriously we are led to assume that, for those who use it, paternalism entails domination, that is, a structurally unequal relationship between agents. This is what most interpretations of paternalism seem to elude.
TL;DR: In this article , a fuzzy integrated assessment method of college students' entrepreneurial education is used to conduct an empirical study and proposes countermeasures for the quality of innovative and entrepreneurial talents cultivation in terms of creating a good innovation environment in universities and encouraging students to actively participate in various innovative and entrepreneurship activities.
Abstract: Entrepreneurial role models are the forerunners on the path to entrepreneurship for college students, and they play a significant role in influencing college students’ entrepreneurship decisions. Entrepreneurship education in schools is an important tool for college students to develop entrepreneurial knowledge, ingenuity, and abilities. The main approach of building fuzzy systems is fuzzy integrated assessment, and it has a broad range of applications, including expert evaluation systems, quality control, performance assessment, weather forecasting, medical diagnosis, economic management, and psychological measurement. This research designs a fuzzy integrated evaluation system of university students’ entrepreneurial education using the environment, teaching process, and instructors’ team as the first-level indicators on the premise of defining the connotation of inventive and entrepreneurial skills. The article also uses the fuzzy integrated assessment method to conduct an empirical study and proposes countermeasures for the quality of innovative and entrepreneurial talents cultivation in terms of creating a good innovation environment in universities and encouraging students to actively participate in various innovative and entrepreneurial activities. The experimental results show that the half confidence of the fuzzy integrated assessment algorithm is 0.657, the retest confidence is 0.991, and the standard deviation of the
α
coefficient among all the test subjects is 0.683, which indicates that it has good confidence. Therefore, the fuzzy integrated assessment method of college students’ entrepreneurial education in this study is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, which expresses and processes the subjective judgment of human in quantitative form, minimizes the drawbacks brought by personal subjective judgment, and makes the evaluation results more credible.
TL;DR: The authors reviewed the use of the term social cohesion and investigated what is meant when either the presence or absence of social cohesion is defined as a social problem and concluded that a relational model of social relationships can be a more fruitful way to address community than the approaches currently predominant in the Dutch academic debate.
Abstract: The attention devoted to social cohesion as a central theme in the Dutch social sciences is an example of how Dutch sociologists are influenced by and constantly influence the public debate. Although the term social cohesion has become increasingly popular, its usefulness as a conceptual tool is rarely a topic of discussion. Apparently, social cohesion sounds less normative than community. Perhaps its popularity can be explained by its neutral connotation rather than its analytical power. This paper critically reviews the use of the term and investigates what is meant when either the presence or absence of social cohesion is defined as a social problem. There is a strong conceptual conflation between saying cohesion and meaning community. A relational model of social relationships can be a more fruitful way to address community than the approaches currently predominant in the Dutch academic debate.
TL;DR: Some of the empirical problems connected with natural languages' varying and vague meanings are discussed, how these can be analysed statistically from discourse data, and represented formally as fuzzy system of vocabulary mappings.
Abstract: Word semantics is gaining increasing interest within linguistics in view of both, more adequate representational structures of the semantic system and methods and procedures to analyse it empirically. Due to the fact formal and operational means have been devised to describe and represent word connotation and/or denotation, this paper discusses some of the empirical problems connected with natural languages' varying and vague meanings, how these can be analysed statistically from discourse data, and represented formally as fuzzy system of vocabulary mappings. Some examples computed from Eastand West-German newspaper texts will be given at the end to illustrate the approaches feasibility.
TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors expounded the origin and connotation of "inclusive growth" and the cause and characteristics of poverty in the western minority areas, and then put forward the personal opinion on the way of promoting the inclusive poverty alleviation in the minority regions of the west.
Abstract: Inclusive growth is a kind of the concept of shared growth or the growth which could make the poor benefited. Since the founding of new China, through more than 60 years efforts, production and living conditions of people of all ethnic groups in the west of China have been improved significantly. But for various reasons, compared with the whole country or the east, the economic and social development of the minority regions in the west is very backward. The problem of poverty in minority areas is still outstanding, and it is difficult to get out of poverty. This paper expounds the origin and connotation of “inclusive growth”, and the cause and characteristics of poverty in the western minority areas, and then put forward the personal opinion on the way of promoting the inclusive poverty alleviation in the minority regions of the west.
